One commentator made an interesting point - that because of Ukraine’s long-standing corruption, internal divisions, outdated equipment, constant political chaos, integration of neo-Nazi/Azov brigades into regular Army after 2014 Maidan, etc... there has been no real leadership or strong institutional cohesiveness in the Ukraine Army over the last 30 years. It means they are stuck with what they know - old Soviet tactics - massed human assaults, lack of combined arms, lack of integration of new technologies, etc...

Whereas the Russians have no corruption, internal divisions, outdated equipment, etc.

compared to Ukraine, absolutely not. Not everyone in the US DoD believes the US state-run media propaganda that Russians are backward, corrupt, can't integrate information, cyber, electronic warfare, etc... If you look, you can find DoD apparatchiks who speak about knowledgeably about Russian capabilities. Its all before Feb. 2022, of course, because they certainly can't speak freely about it now.

From what I know of tactics and strategy there are generally both advantages and disadvantages to being the defender. An attacker can choose where to strike and when and use locally superior numbers for example. Of course yes there are great advantages to having a fortified position with razor wire and mines and lanes of fire set up for would be attackers. But also hard positions can be softened by bombing and artillery. It gets complicated.

The current U.S. propaganda of an Russian attack on the Ukraine is pure bullshit designed to prepare the public for the above preplanned narrative.

When the Russian counter-attack takes place the Ukrainian army will get destroyed by a rainstorm of Russian missiles. But Russian forces will not invade the country. Russia will only hold, via its proxy forces, on to the rebel republics around Donetzk and Luhansk. Russia's aim is to federalize the Ukraine as laid out in the Minsk agreements with the east having a veto against any NATO membership of the country. That aim does not require an occupation of the Ukraine.
