A 12-year-old girl in New Orleans was arrested after a video surfaced of her retrieving a gun following a fight on a school bus - only for her mom to defend her by saying: 'She was being bullied.'
The girl was in a brawl on the bus on Friday, during which she and the girl she was fighting with pulled each other's hair.
She then she reportedly got off the bus, grabbed the pistol from a nearby car and banged on the door of the bus while screaming.
When the driver did not open the door for her, she brandished the gun and left the scene as kids could be heard crying on the bus on the video shared with WWL.
Her mother, who has not been named, said in the video posted to social media 'she was being bullied, so that's why she pulled out a firearm.'
She indicates she is proud of her daughter for taking matters into her own hands, and said 'when a child is under frustration and being bullied, she is supposed to have help with her self-defense.'
She confirmed her daughter was holding a gun and said 'it was in her possession and she pulled it.' It is unclear who owned the firearm, and whether it was loaded.
The mom has since deleted the brazen video defending her daughter, although copies of the clip continue to circulate online.

They tell me that one of the big disadvantages of Home Schooling is that your child will miss out on the wonderful socialization opportunities that are daily occurrences at government schools ...
Funny I keep hearing that too. Then I post stories like these.
Good thing she was wearing a mask on the bus.
Agree with your sarcastic comment.
At 12, I was hunting with the men in the local community. Many boys did.
Life on the asphalt and concrete is not like what I grew up with and it never will be.
The story lacks a key piece of information: how Republicans and white supremacists are responsible for the girl pulling a gun.
Baby girl just keepin’ it real, yo.
School officials will work up a rage against the gun but leave the bullies alone to assault and emotionally damage their victims.
“...said ‘when a child is under frustration and being bullied, she is supposed to have help with her self-defense.’”
Bullying is horrible. I was. Never pulled a gun, although I did wallop an especially mean guy with my crutch in sixth grade. (He shaped up.) All it did was toughen me up for life and make me able scoff at people who tried to use peer pressure on me.
The next New Orleans mayor?
I serve on a committee that has held annual conferences in NOLA for the past 25 years. No more... just had an organizing meeting a week or so ago and it was unanimous to move to a different location.
This is nothing more than the natural extension of a government refusing to enforce laws, encouraging others to view even words as physical violence and a culture that places feelings above rational thought.
People WILL begin to take actions into their own hand and teach their children to do likewise, it is literally a matter of survival. I do not condone the event in the least but can understand how it has gotten to this point.
Constitutional CCW wins again, slapdown of a person defending themselves continues.
Good point, that will be lost on many.
Got a gun from a nearby car?....Huh?....Whose car? Who owned that gun?
A good news thing ... if one does not see the pictures in the article it would be hard to decide if we should quantify this incident as a ‘hate crime’. The article is decidedly neutral as no names are mentioned nor offers any other information that may skew one’s ideas about the incident.
The bad news thing ... the pictures firmly cement in one’s mind any presupposition about the perp.
Bottom line: no one with a 3-digit IQ is surprised.
At 12, I was hunting with the men in the local community. Many boys did.>>
I was one of those boys.
And you are my kind of peebles!
Just another poo flingin’ day at the zoo.
