Directed by Clint Eastwood and based on true events, “Richard Jewell” is a story of what happens when what is reported as fact obscures the truth.
“There is a bomb in Centennial Park. You have thirty minutes.” The world is first introduced to Richard Jewell as the security guard who reports finding the device at the 1996 Atlanta bombing—his report making him a hero whose swift actions save countless lives. But within days, the law enforcement wannabe becomes the FBI’s number one suspect, vilified by press and public alike, his life ripped apart. Reaching out to independent, anti-establishment attorney Watson Bryant, Jewell staunchly professes his innocence. But Bryant finds he is out of his depth as he fights the combined powers of the FBI, GBI and APD to clear his client’s name, while keeping Richard from trusting the very people trying to destroy him.
The film stars Oscar winners Sam Rockwell (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”) as Watson Bryant and Kathy Bates (“Misery,” TV’s “American Horror Story”) as Richard’s mom, Bobi; Jon Hamm (“Baby Driver”) as the lead FBI investigator; Olivia Wilde (“Life Itself”) as Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Kathy Scruggs; and Paul Walter Hauser (“I, Tonya”) stars as Richard Jewell.
Oscar winner Eastwood directed from a screenplay by Oscar nominee Billy Ray (“Captain Phillips”), based on the Vanity Fair article “American Nightmare—The Ballad of Richard Jewell” by Marie Brenner.

It’s all bad. Defund the FBI. Get rid of it. We don’t need a politicized National Police Force which is what the FBI really is now.
“Hannity said the opposite on Friday”
Far too little and too late. All throughout the Russian Collusion Hoax Sean Hannity claimed the FBI was honorable.
And nobody from the FBI, that was involved in this travesty, was ever held accountable for what they did to this man.
Excellent movie. Highly recommended.
And land in Western North Carolina went up in value, after all it might be worth 5 million if Eric Rudolph was hiding on it.
I remember the local sheriff advised the FBI to wear orange vests when they went to comb the woods. The FBI had complained about gunshots near them. The sheriff told them, “It’s hunting season”.
1 minute 36 seconds. Pretty short movie.
You misrepresenting what he has said. Don’t Richard Jewell him.
I watched the movie when it became available on DVD. I knew the FBI abused their authority, and wrongly targeted Richard Jewell, but until I watched the movie, I didn't know to what extent they had gone to try to frame him.
“It’s all bad. Defund the FBI. Get rid of it. We don’t need a politicized National Police Force which is what the FBI really is now.”
I can’t argue this. Not at all. It’s just too obvious, isn’t it?
And here I am someone who doesn’t think they’re all bad.
It’s been a long time, but I seem to recall a scene where the FBI think they have Jewell nailed as a terrorist — because they find a rifle at his house.
A local has to explain to them: “It’s Georgia.”
They didn't eff' up. They did it deliberately. Effing up is usually a one-time mistake. The FBI deliberately violates the law, and abuses their power on a regular basis, plus conveniently loses evidence and documents that will prove their abuse of power.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Clint Eastwood directed movie I haven’t liked.
Million Dollar Baby while a very good movie, is one I won’t watch again.....the end was too rough for me.
It all seemed deliberate on the part of the FBI by spending all their resources on trying to convict Jewell, all the while not pursuing Eric Rudolph.
“And here I am someone who doesn’t think they’re all bad.”
Name something the FBI does that is good for the country that the Sheriff’s cannot do.
“You misrepresenting what he has said. “
No, I am not. He claimed only a small percentage of the FBI was bad when we have evidence to the contrary.
Imagine 87,000 Lon Horiuchis.
Hannity is bad for a whole host of reasons. I get less angry watching Rachel Maddow than Hannity. He is a true charlatan.
I had forgotten all about Richard Jewel ANOTHER of the many FBI screwups!!! SPIT!!
Totally with you there but you are mispresenting by implying he said they are all honorable and truthworthy. He never said that and doesn’t say the 99% thing anymore. But Hannity is probably correct that most of the FBI isn’t bad. They’re probably afraid and not just about losing their jobs.
You’re trying to split hairs on “all” vs “99%”.
