Directed by Clint Eastwood and based on true events, “Richard Jewell” is a story of what happens when what is reported as fact obscures the truth.
“There is a bomb in Centennial Park. You have thirty minutes.” The world is first introduced to Richard Jewell as the security guard who reports finding the device at the 1996 Atlanta bombing—his report making him a hero whose swift actions save countless lives. But within days, the law enforcement wannabe becomes the FBI’s number one suspect, vilified by press and public alike, his life ripped apart. Reaching out to independent, anti-establishment attorney Watson Bryant, Jewell staunchly professes his innocence. But Bryant finds he is out of his depth as he fights the combined powers of the FBI, GBI and APD to clear his client’s name, while keeping Richard from trusting the very people trying to destroy him.
The film stars Oscar winners Sam Rockwell (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”) as Watson Bryant and Kathy Bates (“Misery,” TV’s “American Horror Story”) as Richard’s mom, Bobi; Jon Hamm (“Baby Driver”) as the lead FBI investigator; Olivia Wilde (“Life Itself”) as Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Kathy Scruggs; and Paul Walter Hauser (“I, Tonya”) stars as Richard Jewell.
Oscar winner Eastwood directed from a screenplay by Oscar nominee Billy Ray (“Captain Phillips”), based on the Vanity Fair article “American Nightmare—The Ballad of Richard Jewell” by Marie Brenner.

Remember that time the FBI teamed up with the press to try and frame Richard Jewell? Time to break out this movie again.
If you needed any more proof to not trust them, the movie is a good reminder. I knew the story but watching the movie frustrated me again. NEVER SAY A WORD!
Excellent film.
My wife and I loved the movie.
Very well done, and Richard was a jewel.
I watched this movie for the first time about a month ago.
Always wanted to see it, but never got around to renting it until then.
Clint despises the feebee, and it’s been going on since the 70’s if anyone can read the history. That’s why he’s never played one. Secret service, Yup. Feebee? Hell no. Cameron Britton should have had at least an Oscar nod for his role.
Just one of many examples where the FBI eff’d up.
Don’t forget the 1990s FBI Crime Lab Scandal where they falsified test data and led to the release of thousands of convicted criminals.

Agent: "Ya, we run into you wanna-be heroes all of the time, staging scenarios to pretend you're a hero."
Me: "Ya, I run into you lazy ass agents all of the time, pretending you're mind readers and framing innocents rather than doing your damn job."
Jail time is the same, but the self-satisfaction is much higher......
Along with Jewel I remember the FIB really sticking it to Dr. Steven Hatfill too. Those were the “pond draining” FIB days. Then the TWA 800 days of overcompensating, obfuscation, and cover-up. The most evil, horrid, and vindictive legacy trail sight to behold. I think the DOJ deliberately makes worse calamities just to move on from their past calamities.
The FBI is a criminal organization that needs to be disbanded by executive order. It was create by executive order and needs to be gone.
Not surprised the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is listed in there. After the utter botch they did of the McMichaels "investigation", it makes sense that they are screwing up other cases as well.
If anyone wants to know if they can trust Sean Hannity, just remember that Sean Hannity loves the FBI and calls them honorable and trustworthy.
Hannity said the opposite on Friday: I don’t believe ANY of these people anymore. They have earned our distrust. And it breaks my heart to have to say that because that’s not the country I believe in. I come from a family of law enforcement. This is corruption. This is abuse of power. They all got away with it before and now they are emboldened. And they are going to try harder this time. It should scare every American.l
The scene where Rockwell walks into the newspaper and busts that POS journalist ass wide open is awesome......I hope it really went down just like that.

The FBI field offices typically do good work. Even in cases like this the misconduct is almost always linked to some mutt in DC who wants a noteworthy case wrapped up immediately as opposed to doing a thorough investigation.
We saw that movie when it was released. I left the theater wanting to vomit because I was so upset.
“The FBI field offices typically do good work.”
BS. We have far too many cases of tyranny from field offices. I’ve even worked with the FBI on several cases and they were grossly incompetent. They cared nothing about justice or the law, only their orders from above.
