A mountain rescue team has been called up to Britain’s highest mountain to save a dog that refused to go any further.
Maggie, a 35kg Turkish Akbash dog, was unable to continue the descent from Ben Nevis with her owners because her paws were in pain.
The three women walking with the dog had tried carrying her down the 4,413ft mountain but were forced to admit defeat around the halfway mark.
Lochaber Mountain Rescue came to the dog’s rescue on Saturday night, despite already facing multiple callouts for other emergencies.

I’m surprised it is hot on Ben Nevis. I thought it was so tall that snow stayed on it year round. Beautiful Scotland.
I hope the poor dog’s owners will take in the lesson about what a dog can and cannot do. THEY weren’t barefoot on that mountain.
Heck, my house is almost at that elevation.
People need to think before taking dogs out in hot weather. Just walking a dog on pavement in extreme heat is bad for them.
Good point. In AZ, the pavement hits 150 degrees and more. My pup burned her feet just a couple of times before she learned not to go on the black top. She wears boots if we go out but to your point, it’s too hot most of the time. If we dont walk by 8AM, forget it.
I have a Great Pyrenees dog and it must be a very close cousin to this breed. Looks almost the same. My dog weighs in at 126 lbs and is a very powerful male. He also has the same mission/job. On patrol of my property everyday rain or shine looking for bad actors.
Not just heat. Dogs need regular exercise to keep their foot pads toughened up.
Idiots
I had an Irish-setter and had to carry him home a few times ,LOL
It's a damn shame some people don't consider their
pet's paw(s) can suffer damage also.
There are pet shoes of every type available for our canine
companions.

Guess they needed a Man, or three?
This ain’t a very WOKE written article.
and it won’t be a learning experience...

And it’s a complete mystery why bad actors never appear on your property. 🤗
Sounds like a nice dog.
I had an Irish neighbor who had to be carried home on occasion.
And even so can still get torn feet. My hubby did including losing a big mail because of side walking along mountain ridge.
