Shotguns are not the mythical “scattergun.”
At that distance the pellets probably spread less than six inches, so he could easily have missed.
If he had hit the cretin, the cretin would not have made it to the escape vehicle.
It appeared to me that the cretin left his gun behind, because he didn’t have it when he got in the car.

Four suspects were later found at a hospital. One of the men “was suffering from a gunshot wound consistent with a shotgun blast,” according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. The 23-year-old remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition and will be booked into jail after being released, officials said.

All 3 other perps get caught. Lots of charges to go around — robbery, stolen car, stolen guns, possibly conspiracy. Although it is doubtful they have enough collective brain cells to conspire.

If that was 12 gauge buckshot, he’d have collapsed on the spot. My guess is 12 gauge birdshot, which causes serious but possibly survivable wounds under 20 feet.
