CHICAGO -- A 13-year-old boy was shot Friday after he and at least three others tried to break into a parked vehicle in Hyde Park on the South Side, police said.
About 8 p.m., the boy was among "four to five" men who were trying to breach a parked car in the 1100 block of East 52nd Street when the vehicle's owner, a 34-year-old woman, confronted the group, Chicago police said.
One of the men brandished a handgun, but the woman, who possesses a valid concealed carry license, fired her gun and struck the 13-year-old in the neck, police said.
The boy was transported to Comer Children's Hospital in fair condition, police said.
The other men fled the scene.

MSM trying to blur some lines????
Was he a boyish man or mannish boy?
It was her car. What do you suggest she have done. Call the police?

She’s probably supposed to ask the perps for their pronouns so she doesn’t misgender them.

Cool hand Lucy…
I don’t think auto theft should be a death sentence but I have to confess, if people shot every criminal on sight, the odds are crimes would plummet and America would be a whole lot safer. Just saying. There is a real argument to be made to allow law abiding citizens to protect their private property with lethal force.
The headline does not mention that the woman was threatened with a handgun. Had the woman been white, all hell would have broken loose by now.
Clearly this lady is a hero and well within her rights....but this is Chicago. I suspect the utes are Amish. If she is white, she is dead. If not, there will still be the BIIC, Black Innocence Industrial Complex will still be out in force with the “the retaliation didn’t match the crime, he is only 13 years old, all guns are bad”.....mantra.
“When can You use Self-Defense in an Illinois Murder Case?
Illinois statute 720 ILCS 5/6-4 provides that individuals may implement reasonable force to defend themselves or someone else. In addition, reasonable force may be used to defend one's property.
To use self-defense in a murder case, the accused must show:
There was a grave and immediate threat to the accused, another person, or the accused’s property;
The threat was illegal;
The accused believed that there was a danger present that required force; and
The accused used force that was equivalent to the threat.
A serious and immediate threat means one that is happening right now. If you believe that someone may hurt you the following day, it will not be possible to claim self-defense.”
It all happens so fast, but seeing your car being broken into you MIGHT have time to call 911 and have them on the line as you try to stop them from stealing your property. And defending yourself if necessary.
The hard part about using a gun to defend ones property, while legal, there is the subjective “reasonable force” issue that the jury would need to take into account.
“The kid was just trying to steal his car - she could have shot him in the leg instead of killing him!”
I don't have much in life but I do have a car and its my castle so I'll do what I can to keep it..
Very deceptive and provocative headline; not by accident.
Who you callin’ “boy”?
Surely they meant to say teens. /sarcasm
I strongly believe that. Laws should exist which shield citizens who reduce the criminal population. Not jaywalkers. But property theft, in my opinion, should be punished.
Since she was in Chicago things wont go well for her..IMO.
The boy was transported to Comer Children's Hospital in fair condition, police said.
A gun was pointed at her. WTF?
“I suggest you read the third paragraph over again. Sheesh.”
Very DECEPTIVE headline. First, it was her car, and second, she had a gun pulled on her.
Anyway, once the bad guys brandish a gun, the victim gets a free pass, at least in my book.
Actually that is the law in most jurisdictions.
Uh, no it isnt.
I love a story with a happy ending.
It’s Chicago. Not being prosecuted for self-defense probably requires routing $1000 in small bills to DA’s bagman.
