US offers $10M reward for Russian election interference info

WASHINGTON (AP) - The State Department on Thursday offered a reward of up to $10 million for information about Russian interference in American elections, including a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin and a troll farm that officials say fueled a divisive social media campaign in 2016.

The reward, offered by the department’s Rewards for Justice program, seeks information about the Internet Research Agency, Yevgeniy Prigozhin - a wealthy businessman whose ties to Putin earned him the nickname “Putin Chef” - and other entities involved in interfering in the 2016 U.S. election won by Republican Donald Trump.

Prigozhin and 12 other Russians were indicted along with the IRA in 2018 as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into whether Russia had coordinated with the Trump campaign to sway the election. The defendants were accused of a huge but hidden social media trolling campaign aimed at sowing discord on hot-button issues and at helping Trump defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton. Officials say Prigozhin provided funding for the IRA through companies he controlled.

None of the defendants has faced trial in the United States. The Justice Department in 2020 moved to drop charges against two Russian firms named in the indictment, saying it had concluded that a trial against a corporate defendant, with no presence in the U.S. and no prospect of meaningful punishment even if convicted, would likely expose sensitive law enforcement tools and techniques.

Unless Russians hacked into the voting machines themselves then they didn’t interfere with the election. Buying facebook ads isn’t interference, anyone on the planet is allowed to buy ads and put whatever they want on them.

The Russians pushed against Democrats in some social media and against Republicans in other social media. That tactic is nothing new.

I remember this...it was a lot of cr**....Totally conjecture based on the idea that we were too stupid to separate the truth from fiction.

As I recall, there was no Boris at my election booth in 2016...and I don't expect one this year either.

Only democrats are allowed to interfere in elections. Where is the reward for the capture and arrest of all the mules that interfered in the 2020 election? Why isn’t Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey in prison yet?

What about all the Saudi money that went to elect Obama in 2008 and 2012?

I could be thinking of another such case, but didn't one of the indicted entities with a presence here in the US answer the indictment and challenge the government to go to court?
Pretty sure I remember Rush talking about it at the time saying that it would prove *interesting*.

Wrong! Subject to the laws of this country, namely defamation, in the least.

Furthermore, NDI has organized over 200 international election observer delegations in over 67 countries. Through its local partners, NDI has helped train and deploy 4 million election observers in 350 elections and referenda in 85 countries and has trained 600,000 party poll-watchers in more than 50 countries. It has helped partner groups organize 400 candidate debates in over 35 countries.[7]

In the 2000's, NDI worked with election monitoring organizations such as the Committee of Ukrainian Voters to provide financial and technical assistance to develop election monitoring capabilities. This monitoring played a salient role in popular uprising against electoral fraud during the Orange Revolution.[13]

Couple of other swamp groups that mess with other countries. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Endowment_for_Democracy | https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Republican_Institute

Mostly paid for with taxpayer money.

Two dem groups and one repub group but they joined forces to "help" Ukraine.

Activists of the Orange Revolution were funded and trained in tactics of political organisation and nonviolent resistance by Western pollsters and professional consultants who were partly funded by Western government and non-government agencies but received most of their funding from domestic sources. [2] [150] According to The Guardian, the foreign donors included the U.S. State Department and USAID along with the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, the International Republican Institute, the NGO Freedom House and George Soros's Open Society Institute. Even worked with Soros' Open Society. Isn't that special?

Yes. 2020 initiated a sort of Election Fraud Arms Race.

The two sides will simply cheat their arses off to make it look like an election took place. We need only to sit in front of the boob tube to see who will be named President....after all of the kangaroo court cases, of course.

There will bnever be another fair and real election again. And the Dems will not "lose" one for a very long time.

Is that too cynical?
