Investments presume a reasonable Return on Investment.

On the cost side:

-Because this one is only reliable for grocery getting, its an extra car,

-extra garage space, (unless it stored outside to maximize recharging time)

-extra insurance,

-in case of gas shortage, there will be no groceries to get,

On the Return side:

-is ego in need of virtue signaling?

-lower gas cost will offset costs above in about 12 years...if the car last that long.

So, NO, I won't be buying.

ell, actually it’s generated by the wind of passing ICE vehicles as you sit on the side of the road waiting for a recharge vehicle to come.............

First crack with a roaming shopping cart in a grocery parking lot—good luck starting it up.

Would I drive it?
Yes - I think it would be fun to take it out for a few hours and check out the technology.
Would I own it?
Absolutely not. I’d be embarrassed to own something like that.

Hmmm ... where have I seen this before?

They didn’t work very well in fiction ... doubt that reality will be any better.

"That works out to 10 miles of range per day on solar."

I thought the same thing. I'm having a problem with the math on it. As light as the car looks, let's say it gets 4 miles/kWh (the Kia EV6 gets 3.2 miles/kWh). That means it needs 2.5 kWh per day. And looking at the solar panels only on the top and hood (forgetting the completely useless ones on the sides), I'd say at best we're looking at 500W total. Which means you need 5 peak solar hours on avg to get the 2.5kWh per day. That's the max we get here in Alabama (5.8 in May as per http://tsi.tyconsystems.com/html/nrel_lookup.htm, which I believe is right based on what I've experienced).

That's if you leave it outside all day to catch the sun and don't park next to buildings that will shade it. And eve then we're talking about only sunny days.

Oh, and forget parking in a garage or parking structure,
= = =

Park in one of those solar panel shaded lots, and plug in.

-extra garage space,

You can park it inside your garage if you leave the garage lights on.

Put a little turbine on the tailpipe of ICE cars.

Then wirelessly transmit that generated electricity to these EVs.

See, I have been reading the new Tech, and it will save us.

Let’s see it survive a West Texas hail storm.

Plus you would need to wash the dust off at least once a day.

I live less than a mile from my office and drive an average of less than 5K miles per year. Most of that is from occasional trips out of town. Most of those out of town trips are 300 miles or more through rural Texas.

I looked into getting an EV for driving short trips around town (never going far enough that I couldn't charge at home every night), but even with the government subsidies I could not justify the cost. I can drive a full sized truck or SUV in air conditioned comfort wherever I want to go and even with Brandon's $5 per gallon gas it costs me less than an EV would cost.

Plus, with regular maintenance, I can drive a truck or SUV for 20 years or more (my current truck is over 10 years old, I drove my last truck for over 20 years). Most EV batteries only last 5 years before they have to be replaced and the cost of replacing an EV battery (if you can find one) is more than the EV is worth.

You could put a 5th wheel that just generates power when driving

The Germans have a word for that: Sitzpinkler.

It's not a compliment.
