On his podcast, Joe Rogan strongly defended same-sex marriage, skewering Republicans as "homophobic" and profanely declaring that anyone who calls him a conservative has no idea what they're talking about.
On the Saturday episode of "The Joe Rogan Experience," the comedian and massively successful podcast host pushed back against critics who have accused him of being a "secret conservative," citing GOP opposition to gay marriage as one of many reasons he is not, nor has ever been, a Republican.
“It’s not just abortion rights, but now they’re going after gay marriage too, which is so strange to me,” Rogan said while interviewing comedian Andrew Schulz. He brought up how Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) reportedly said he will not vote in favor of a bipartisan bill that would codify same-sex marriage into federal law to protect that right from being revoked by the Supreme Court.
Lawmakers have put forward a bill that would ban state governments from recognizing the traditional definition of marriage in what supporters argue is a needed protection for marriage equality. But some Republicans say the bill is unnecessary because the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in 2015 and no one reasonably thinks the court will reverse that decision. Rubio reportedly called the bill a "stupid waste of time."
"Marco Rubio is saying that it’s like a silly thing to argue about, to be concerned about, and some other senator, a gay woman, confronted him and she was furious at it. 'Cause gay marriage is not silly, it’s marriage. It’s marriage for people that are homosexual and for them it’s important," Rogan said, referring to reports that Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.) confronted Rubio about his opposition to the bill.
“Gay marriage is not silly. It’s marriage — it’s marriage from people that are homosexual and it’s, for them, it’s important. They want it," Rogan continued. “They want to affirm their love and their relationship. And the fact that they’re going after that now almost makes me feel like they want us to fight. They wanna divide us in the best way they can. And this is the best way for them to keep pulling off all the bulls*** they’re doing behind the scenes is to get us to fight over things like gay marriage or get us to fight over things like abortion. It’s just like, why are you removing freedoms?”
"Yes," Schulz said. "If you are gonna say that marriage is an important cultural institution to the fabric of America, you can’t remove it from Americans."
“It’s so homophobic,” Rogan declared. “Because you’re saying there’s something wrong with being homosexual by saying that you are opposed to gay marriage. You’re saying you’re opposed to gay people.”
Rogan went on to list a series of benefits enjoyed by married people, explaining how he believes gay people should both have the right to have their love legally recognized and have hospital visitation rights, as well access to financial incentives tied to marriage.
"The fact that they’re going after that now, like that’s the kind of s*** that keeps me from being a Republican. It’s only one of the kind of — there’s a bunch of s*** that keeps you from being a Republican," Rogan said.
"People will say like, ‘Oh, you know, you’re a secret conservative.’ Like you can suck my d***. You don’t know what the f*** you’re talking about. I’m so far away from being a Republican. Just because I believe in the Second Amendment and just because I support the military and just cause I support police," he continued.
"Like I was on welfare as a kid. I think it’s important. I think having a social safety net is crucial. We should help each other. We’re supposed to be one big community. I’m a bleeding-heart liberal when it comes to a lot of s***,” Rogan emphasized.
My Buddy is divorced and he and his divorced brother are considering marrying in order to collect SS benefits after the other dies.
The government bestows no sanctity on marriage. It profanes the institution. I don’t want or need some stinking pol’s approval.
We all need to play the devil’s advocate from time to time as times change.. Even our hero Governor Reagan was against preventing gays from being teachers.
Just bake the cake.
Defend away Joe . . . . you might want to check in with God and see what He has to say about it all. You are playing with fire.
I never said its silly.
Its wrong. Its not marriage.
I didn’t change my definition, and my definition is the biblical and historical definition of what marriage is.
Not a conservative, not a deep thinker, not particularly well-educated or broadly knowledgeable.
Either that or He will smite him.
Rogan is a tiresome leftist blowhard.
Look I know we saddle up and ride off to defend people who are suffering at the hands of the woke crowd but a bit of reflection before coming to their defense is in order.
Joe Rogan is not and never has been on "our side".
The same with a large number of other people I have been assured "must have seen the light". Juan Williams, Jerry Rivers, you can probably name a dozen more.
Let them drown.
We have a limit, financial and emotional to how much we can do. Save your help for people who actually are on our side, or at least do not hate us.
Rogan is a cuck!
He regularly takes mind altering substances. Enough said
Good, I was tired of everyone pretending he is what he so very obviously ain’t.
/sarc
Rogan isn’t playing devil’s advocate. He’s a moron and a self aggrandizing POS.
“This is our fill in for The Great Limbaugh?”
In what bizarre universe did you come across that ?!
Which side are you on, Joe? Which side are you on?
He’s come a long way from making people eat roaches and beetles...
Two men cannot marry ... they only blaspheme the Lord who authorized marriage between the sexes, not within a sex.
They will either repent or be damned, just like all those who need to repent but have not yet.
In a previous life Rogan hosted a rather stupid reality show, Fear Factor, iirc. It was obvious Joe was not a deep thinker, but had a gift for gab, speaking his mind. He parlayed that into a very popular podcast where he appears curious, and genuinely common.
Perhaps that’s his appeal ?
People listen to Rogan’s show because he has some interesting guests and he lets them talk and share their thoughts.
Nobody listens to him for his wisdom. He’s not that bright.
I tried a long time ago but he is so wishy-washy that it was off putting to say the least.
I never had any delusions that he was conservative.
He’s also a comedian, acted on a hit TV show, is a MMA fighter and commentator. He is kind of amazing in how well he has done in various fields.
Is marriage one of the enumerated powers of the Congress of The United States?
If not then this bill is illegal.
