Alka Seltzer
My Bathroom Medicine Cabinet | 07/23/2022 | R2

Posted on 07/23/2022 7:16:14 PM PDT by Responsibility2nd

When was the last time you took Alka Seltzer? I'm not talking about the cold and flu medicine, but the good old tried and true Alka Seltzer that's been around since 1931.

Yesterday I ate some nachos. With jalapenos. Lots of jalapenos. Used to be - this was not a problem with me. But today I've had a sour stomach and indigestation.

Plop plop, fizz fizz. Oh what a relief it is.

Taking two Alka Seltzer immediately solved my problem.

Sometimes (oftentimes) the old remedies work best.

Enjoy these old commercials you grew up with. The best commerical ever.

Anyone remember Fizzies? I loved those.

When I was about 12, the cool thing was to eat them. Split open the blister pack, hold it and lick the Fizzie tablet. The fad didn’t last long, maybe one summer, but all of us kids did that.

Best commercial ever? I would have gone with “Mama mia! Atsa spicy meatbowl!”

That was a great series of ads. My favorite was, “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing!”

Sauerkraut is a prebiotic. IE food for the probiotics.

Both are needed.

I didn’t read this article, just the comments!

For some reason, I cannot find the article, but Alka-Seltzer was on the covid list of things that help if you get covid so I have some in the cabinet...

I convinced my employer to stock the infirmary with Brioschi for my hangovers.

Italian delis still stock Brioschi.

I usually keep some on hand along with BC powders.

BC Powders seem to be mainly a southern thing. I like the concept, but way overpriced for what you get.

“I have never had to take Alka Seltzer or anything similar. My mom always told me that I had/have a cast-iron stomach. It may be true! ;-)”

Nor I. I don’t know about cast iron stomachs but I’ve never known what heartburn or acid indigestion is.

Maybe I had it and don’t know.

From the label:

Each tablet of Alka-seltzer contains:
325 mg aspirin, NSAID

1916 mg sodium bicarbonate, antacid

1000 mg Anhydrous citric acid,

Dissolve two tablets in at least 4 oz water.

Take away the aspirin and just take the sodium bicarbonate aka baking soda for upset stomach/gas....way cheaper than Alka-Seltzer. If Aspirin is needed, buy generic at ridiculous low prices.

Savings might buy a half tank of gasoline...;>)

Oh my. I loved Fizzies. I would tear them into pieces and pop them into my mouth. Chewed them all up until the flavor was gone then spit out the paper.
