Trump or DeSantis: Who Is the Man for the Times?
American Thinker ^ | 21 Jul, 2022 | Dex Bahr

Is it time to move on from Trump? Or is DeSantis in need of more seasoning?

Elon Musk recently declaring that we need to move on from President Donald Trump is the latest example of chatter I have noticed lately on the news and conservative blogs about why we need to do an about-face to Governor Ron DeSantis as our presidential nominee in 2024.

The question is whether this conversation is from the people or manufactured by Deep State operatives.

As of the writing of this piece, Trump has not officially declared whether he's even going to seek the nomination in 2024, but you wouldn't know that from all the hand-wringing. So, for now this is just a hypothetical comparison.

First, I am a big Governor DeSantis fan. He is showing what strong state leadership looks like and how it is possible to constitutionally resist a tyrannical federal government. DeSantis has been a profile in courage, toughness, sensibility, and even love as he stands for the citizens of Florida. He is the living embodiment of a patriotic executive.

Governor DeSantis has what it takes to be president and would likely be an effective leader of the free world...but not in 2024. DeSantis needs to stay in Florida for now, build on the gains he has made for that state, and instill the habit in the minds of Floridians of what normal governance looks like. This, so they don't screw up and elect another politician in the vein of Charlie Christ or Andrew Gillum (Florida really dodged a bullet with that clown).

One thing for certain is that Trump is the leader for these times. His example has encouraged Americans to take a stand and assert their God-given power. We understand that it is we, the people who will reclaim America. Trump is a force only because of us. Awakened patriots are a danger to the globalists and their sycophants on both sides of the aisle.

To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, we cannot spare this man; he fights.

This is the last paragraph of the article {I know, no one reads the article before bloviating} but it should be the first paragraph.

This guy loves DeSantis, but knows that Trump is the right man for 2024.

Trump is still anointed by God to take back his rightful place. Nothing has changed in that respect. I do believe, and I felt it strongly in the the Spirit through prayer, that Desantis will pick up the mantle that Pence corrupted.

God’s original plan was for Pence to carry on after Trump. Pence was compromised and chose poorly. What a mistake by Pence!

“But they’d make a perfect ticket”

Why would anyone want to see DeSantis pulled from 2028 prez prep as governor to do veep which is nothing but understudy?

Biden doesn’t count. He used it to do money laundering.

Trump vs. DeSantis, I would vote DeSantis. But if Trump was against a Democrat, no way would you be able to do anything but vote for Trump.

I for one disagree with your premise. There are always people singing the song about Trump being used up. Most of them are RINO. DeSantis is a politician, an excellent politician in Florida. He is untested on the National stage. As soon as he declares the real knives & dirty tricks come out. It would be foolish to discard the man who achieved so much & was elected twice (the second time with more votes than the first) because the left cheated and he has a blunt and sometimes abrasive personality. Those attributes are not “nice” but they are necessary at this time in our country.

“But they’d make a perfect ticket..”

$$$$$$$$$

No, they would not.

Post-election perhaps, but for the election itself, Trump needs someone who can help him carry some swing states beyond the margin of fraud, if such a margin exists anymore.

Florida is pretty solid red now.

For the 2016 election alone, Pence was a great choice, but turned out to be an anti- constitutional traitor.

DeSantis would have to be on board with the choice.

Oh trust me so would I, but Mom is the ultimate confidant around here, heavily involved in the local and state politics she is the one person who everyone goes to for advise and to confide in knowing it won’t ever go beyond her.

A story breaks around here with anything to do with our local political players and when I ask her if she knows what really happened and the back story all I get is a small smile and a wink.

Go back to 2012 — the last time the GOP ran a “conventional” Republican candidate for President. Which states is DeSantis going to win in 2024 that Romney lost in 2012? The only one that stands out to me is Ohio, and that isn’t good enough.

Nobody cares about 2012. We’re not the same country as we were then. Romney was an uninspiring candidate who didn’t really want to win running against a fairly popular incumbent.

The real question is what states will DeSantis win that Trump won in 2016 —but lost in 2020.

The nation is in a populist period brought about by decades of elites overplaying their hands in the uniparty. Trump has the broad leadership experience and the fire to guide the nation away from elitist manipulation.

DeSantis has the ability to lead, but the fire necessary to take the beating is another question. He has handled Newsom; but that was not a savage personal attack, which will come with a presidency. The last line of the article is the most important point--"To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, we cannot spare this man [Trump] he fights."

Reagan and Trump had and have this indispensable quality. If DeSantis continues to show this spirit he will be a great candidate. But Trump is holding his own against an onslaught, now; and he deserves support over all others at this point.

Here in Florida we want and need Ron DeSantis as Governor for 4 more years. He has done great work for our state but if he runs for President now...we would get someone like Charlie Crist and THAT WE DO NOT WANT! Charlie would be very bad for Florida right now. In his ads he’s already talking of reversing what Governor DeSantis has accomplished. Crist is like Biden...a liberal left hack.

DeSantis should shove aside any thoughts about DC for the moment and keep his eye on Tallahassee. He has a tough race for re-election coming up. The entire woke Democrat apparatus has lined up behind his likely Democrat opponent Charlie Crist. Nikki Fried, Crist’s opponent in the Democrat primary, is doing well in the polls. And there are a lot of Democrats in Florida.

I don’t care about 2012 either. But the U.S. still has the same 50 states plus the District of Columbia today that I had back then — and you don’t win a presidential election without winning enough of them to get 270 electoral votes.

The real question is what states will DeSantis win that Trump won in 2016 —but lost in 2020.

1. Arizona
2. Georgia

It still doesn’t get DeSantis to the White House.

Desantis would flow easily from VP to Pres in 2028.

A VP is what the President allows him to be.
