Trump or DeSantis: Who Is the Man for the Times?
American Thinker ^ | 21 Jul, 2022 | Dex Bahr

Is it time to move on from Trump? Or is DeSantis in need of more seasoning?

Elon Musk recently declaring that we need to move on from President Donald Trump is the latest example of chatter I have noticed lately on the news and conservative blogs about why we need to do an about-face to Governor Ron DeSantis as our presidential nominee in 2024.

The question is whether this conversation is from the people or manufactured by Deep State operatives.

As of the writing of this piece, Trump has not officially declared whether he's even going to seek the nomination in 2024, but you wouldn't know that from all the hand-wringing. So, for now this is just a hypothetical comparison.

First, I am a big Governor DeSantis fan. He is showing what strong state leadership looks like and how it is possible to constitutionally resist a tyrannical federal government. DeSantis has been a profile in courage, toughness, sensibility, and even love as he stands for the citizens of Florida. He is the living embodiment of a patriotic executive.

Governor DeSantis has what it takes to be president and would likely be an effective leader of the free world...but not in 2024. DeSantis needs to stay in Florida for now, build on the gains he has made for that state, and instill the habit in the minds of Floridians of what normal governance looks like. This, so they don't screw up and elect another politician in the vein of Charlie Christ or Andrew Gillum (Florida really dodged a bullet with that clown).

DeSantis.

I voted for Trump, and if he's the nominee, I'll vote for him a 3rd time. But I believe DeSantis has a better chance to win the general election.

Why? TDS. I'm guessing there are 10 million Rat voters who won't bother to vote for Kamala or Buttgig or Newsom etc. But they will come out to vote AGAINST Trump.

Much repair to this highly-damaged Republic, is also required.

Or the residence adjustment that would be required for the joint ticket.

Still, I consider it pretty newsy.

Yes, and he would be foolish to give Charlie Crist "Ron DeSantis doesn't want to be your governor" soundbytes to use against him.

After he soundly defeats Crist in November (and he will), everyone in DeSantis' closest circle will be telling him to strike while the iron is hot and throw his hat into the ring for '24.

I posted my concerns about DeSantis back in #5. But beyond that, there is a much more practical problem for him to deal with …

Go back to 2012 — the last time the GOP ran a ā€œconventionalā€ Republican candidate for President. Which states is DeSantis going to win in 2024 that Romney lost in 2012? The only one that stands out to me is Ohio, and that isn’t good enough.

What the DeSantis peddlers here on FR seem to be overlooking is that Trump had a huge base or support among registered DEMOCRATS. And I can tell you that very few of those supporters would even walk across the street to cast a vote for Ron DeSantis or any other career Republican politician.

^^^^

DeSantis is the future. Trump has another four years in him. If anything, if DeSantis does win the Whitehouse in 24, I would like to see Trump have a role where he can cleanup various agencies. The State Department for one.

The correct response to this Trump-vs-Desantis nonsense is to reply “No, it’s Trump THEN DeSantis”

That is really something they will fear more.

Trump deserves the second term that was stolen from him.

I’ll gladly vote for Trump if he is nominated.

But I believe DeSantis has a much better chance of winning the general election.

Isn’t that what is important? Winning the general election?

Or boosting Trump’s ego getting him nominated a 3rd time, and then losing the general election?

Living here in Indiana we know Pence quite well, he did absolutely nothing a governor having had the office practically handed to him by Mitch Daniels.

Want to know who REALLY knows the truth about Pence? His former personal secretary at the law firm he worked at.

(*hint* Mom’s best friend by the way, who refused to vote for him even though she is a staunch republican in any election he was on the ballot for)
