GREENWOOD, Ind. — Within 15 seconds of a mass shooter opening fire inside the Greenwood Park Mall, Elisjsha Dicken got off 10 rounds, striking the shooter 8 times, and killing him.
Police say Dicken was shopping with his girlfriend Sunday at the mall when he stopped at a cookie counter close to the main walkways of the mall. When the gunman exited the restroom, beginning his shooting spree, police say what he did was nothing short of heroic.
Armed only with a handgun, police say Dicken first engaged the shooter from a distance of 40 yards. Police say he was very proficient and tactically sound.
According to police, Dicken hit the shooter from 40 yards away with his 9mm Glock on the very first shot. Johnson County Coroner Mike Pruitt said an autopsy found the suspect had eight gunshot wounds and none were self-inflicted. He fired 10 shots with an 80 percent strike rate.
Dicken started making his way towards the gunman, motioning for people to leave behind him. The gunman tried to retreat back into the restroom, but Dicken continued on, shooting the suspect until he fell.
“The surveillance video shows Sapirman exit the restroom at 5:56:48 p.m.,” Ison said. “He was neutralized by Dicken 15 seconds later at 5:57:03 p.m.”
Police took him to the Greenwood Police Department while they watched the security video and spoke with other witnesses to confirm what Dicken told them. During the whole process, police say Dicken fully cooperated.
Dicken had no police training or military background.
Police also confirmed Dicken was carrying a gun under the constitutional carry law that went into effect July 1.
As would be expected when the shooting started people were running outward toward the stores hoping to not get hit. I get the impression that after the hero knew he hit the shooter, the shooter started retreating to the bathroom and Eli finished.
I think you are right about the shooter never expected to be trying to defend himself. Maybe not even sure at first where it was coming from which gave people time to get out of the line of fire.
That looks almost exactly like ours!........................
Dicken did an amazing thing. Hopefully this stays in the news, it’s a great example of the value of trained concealed carry holder being armed and prepared in real life circumstances. He’s a Hero with a capital H.
Release a photo of the shot-grouping on the carcass!!
I’ve managed to hit steel at 100 yards with a custom 1911. But it’s not easy and it takes me a full magazine to get the drop right. I can actually see the bullet flying towards the target with a .45.
But I did it seated and shooting from a rest so it’s hardly comparable to what this guy pulled off. It’s nothing short of amazing.

This was the same sort of thing that happened at the second church in the NZ Christchurch shootings. A good guy with a rifle (probably AR15 clone) started shooting at the aHole slaughtering Ozzies — and the coward ran off.
Coward? Yeah! He went to a gun free zone to murder.
Heck, we have heard condemnation from the anti-gun groups because he stopped the murderer before he could kill more. They are going so far as to call him a vigilante.
Yes, I noticed.
There have been two nice articles this morning about the hero on FR. This is news that needs telling!
Supposedly it’s on Reddit...................
Thank God the perp was white. Had a white shooter shot a black man 8 times. White guy shot 8 times? The media doesn’t care.
The arms may have been positioned in front of the murderer's body when they were hit. An autopsy may be able to tell from the entry and exit wounds what position the arms were in when hit by righteous lead.
Really amazing he was there. Could not prevent the three deaths, but certainly prevented countless others.
NOBODY needs more than 7 rounds.
...Kamala Harris
Nice. I have to go to Farragut Park about 25 miles away to find a decent 1000 yard range. Not that I’m shooting at that distance these days.
“when hit by righteous lead.”
Great turn of a phrase. Poetic almost.
one of the witnesses leaning against the entry of Dicks said he ran into the store but wasn’t even sure if he was making the right decision. He was hoping he wasnt disoriented as to where the shooter was.
I have never been in a situation like that but I am in awe of what the Hero did. Just the disorientation factor and having a GF beside him he was trying to protect and telling her to get down while he was trying to pull his gun
More of our young men need to carry...
You do have a point.. so yeah..maybe he was going for center mass with every shot
He should start a national self-defense/gun-safety training course. He would make a mint.
