Former Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that the window to control the spread of the monkeypox virus in the United States may be closed.
Partial transcript as follows:
MARGARET: Give us a sense of the scale of this because the CDC numbers are out. They say they’re only eight women within that. No children. You’re saying this is a pandemic? That’s not a word the administration is using yet, what level of emergency are we at?
GOTTLIEB: Yeah look, and I think they’re going to be reluctant to use the word pandemic, because it implies that they’ve failed to contain this. And I think at this point, we’ve failed to contain this. We’re now at the cusp of this becoming an endemic virus where this now becomes something that’s persistent that we need to continue to deal with. I think the window for getting control of this and containing it probably has closed, and if it hasn’t closed, it’s certainly starting to close. 11,000 cases across the world right now. 1,800 cases, as you said, in the US. We’re probably detecting just a fraction of the actual cases because we have a very, we had for a long time a very narrow case definition on who got tested. And by and large, we’re looking in the community of men who have sex with men and STD clinics. So we’re looking there, we’re finding cases there. But it’s a fact that there’s cases outside that community right now. We’re not picking them up, because we’re not looking there. This has spread more broadly in the community. I wouldn’t be surprised there’s thousands of cases right now.\

Damn, guess I’ll have to stop hanging out at interstate rest stops for now.

I hate everybody, so the likelihood I’ve had casual contact with just about anybody is a moot point.

Containing monkeypox is as easy as “Sodomites, knock it off.”
Close the “window” and da monkey can’t get in!
Mos shake hands with straight people too, but you don't see us coming down with it. As for squirrels, ground hogs, etc. a normal fella ought not to be having carnal relations with them either.
If you keep the exit closed to incoming traffic, you won’t get the chimp pox
Everyone has Pox! Pox Pox Pox……
Another punishment from God and they still don’t see it
I don’t sew the logic. We can’t stop monkeypox, because that would be homophobic. But it’s anti-homophpbic to let gay men get a terrible disease, suffer, and some die.
I wonder how this is going to interact with HIV. Five percent of the population in DC has AIDS, and the same group is getting monkey pox.
Let the ride begin!
So what do you propose mr scaredy-cat? Should we all be required to wear condoms? For one thing monkey pox is freaking hideous not like Covid. If someone has monkey pox you are going to know it. That gives you ample opportunity to avoid “casual contact”. This is one case where social distancing actually works.
It should spread throughout Hollywood.
Frankly I didn’t expect MonkeyPox to be contained, any more
than I expected bath houses to be closed.
Even when HIV was flooding across the nation, they wouldn’t
shut down places they knew were spreading it like wild fire.
As far as I’m concerned this is no different from AIDS. It’s up to the queers in their communities to figure this out for themselves and leave the rest of us alone.
It can also be spread by close, personal contact, but amazingly the vast majority of victims are............. Gay!
Project much? I'm not the one scared to look into the risks and share what I find.
I propose quarantines. I proposed the same with Covid-19. Nobody listened much. Quarantines would severely inconvenience a few hundred people who have it, but it allows the rest of the nation to get on with their lives.
Beyond that, it would be nice if they can screen blood supplies. Reporting of new cases by state and county so people can determine their risk. And some social distancing is probably in order. Maybe not 6 feet this time, Maybe 3ft would suffice, but shaking hands should stop.
Not sure if you can screen for that on incoming flights, but that should be considered. Screening for fevers should be done. But people were taking anti-inflammatories to avoid airport screenings with covid-19.
I have very very low risk. I live alone, work from home. Go to the Grocery store once a week.
Their (twisted) logic is that we have to deny that this is a problem specific to the homosexual crowd, and have to refuse to institute countermeasures specifically targeting the homosexual crowd.
Instead, we have to pretend that it is a problem affecting the whole of society, and have to accept that - as a consequence - it will, in fact, eventually become a problem affecting the whole of society.
Regards,
The next plandemic coming soon!
The Democrat vote ballot-making machine is already working overtime.
And therefore we have to mail out ballots to every registered voter without regard to whether they are still alive, still living here, legal citizens, in prison, living by the hundreds on vacant lots, etcetera.
