Mark Fleischman, the owner of legendary Midtown nightclub Studio 54, died by assisted suicide in Switzerland, a report said. He was 82.
Fleischman was unable to walk and his speech was impaired after getting sick in 2016. Doctors couldn’t diagnose his condition.
“I can’t walk, my speech is f–ked up, and I can’t do anything for myself,” he told The Post last month.

What do you think Hospice is for the most part, it’s legalized murder.
Fleischman could have used Hospice and they would have killed him with fentanyl and morphine, Medicare woukd have paid for it..
What are you basing your assertions on?
If you believe in the God of the Bible, then you have to realize that your life isn’t your own.
The problem is that Hospice can turn you down for not being sick enough to die. I suspect that could be the case here
Top three religions in this country all have the same God. It's usually not confusing when someone wants to know what God most people in the USA worship.
I wonder what the legal liabilities involved would be.
Some people don’t believe according to any organized religion’s doctrine - but they still believe in a God.
Maybe, but if he was bad enough shape they would take him, I suspect he wanted to make a grand exit and promote Assisted Suicide. He may not even have considered Hospice. My own father was 93, had been in good shape, but his last best friend died and he gave up and wanted to die, so Hospice took him. They maybe a little more lax in standards that we think. I will never have another family member in Hospice if I can do so.
Anyone feeling like a burden should off themselves.
Frail elderly, para- and quadraplegics should go to Switzerland if you know what I mean.
Joni Tada is burden to people. Stephen Hawking a waste.
One of the main concerns I have for legalized suicide is that it will morph into a responsibility to commit suicide.
The Nazis had this thing they called "Lebensunwerten Liebe" which means in English, "Life unworthy of Life."
It was their justification for killing all the disabled and mentally ill. How far behind would be the old and infirm?
While I fully understand why someone in constant pain would want to end their life, I don't think it is a good idea to make it legal.
Same as today and previous years/decades/centuries (US I am talking about).
People have been offing themselves for quite awhile now.
I think a lot of the medical community wink at pain management drugs for seriously ill patients.
I know of one woman who had been diagnosed as having terminal cancer, and they let her manage her own pain medication. They gave her plenty enough to overdose, and she did.
More brevity in making the essential point than I managed.
But if they’re incapacitated and require assistance, where does that put the assistant?
>>One of the main concerns I have for legalized suicide is that it will morph into a responsibility to commit suicide.
An excellent point.
Since I have a fundamental distrust of what society teaches - especially today - that only adds to my concerns of assisted dying laws.
No one should feel they have a responsibility to kill themselves. But the final choice is theirs. I’ll respect someone’s choice as long as they aren’t putting the burden on another person (like standing in front of a train) and they aren’t trying to take along company for their final journey.
Meh. I've heard that one before.
"22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
I think we may be of similar minds on this.
I have no idea how your quotation relates to my statement.
You obviously believe very much in a particular doctrine. Some people don’t believe in any. But they possess an innate sense that there is a God behind the perceptible Universe.
I may have a divergent opinion with you here. For years i've contemplated what good might be accomplished by people nearing death, finding some horrible person that needs to go first, and helping them along.
I won't name any names, but I think we can all look around and see some authoritarian type people who we wish someone would put out of our misery.
It would be a public service! A last gift to mankind! What's more, the State will provide continuous medical care to the end! :)
And i'm only half joking here.
CUSTOMER: You’re not fooling anyone, you know. Look. Isn’t there something you can do?
DEAD PERSON: [singing] I feel happy. I feel happy.
[whop]
CUSTOMER: Ah, thanks very much.
CART MASTER: Not at all. See you on Thursday.
CUSTOMER: Right. All right.
