>>One of the main concerns I have for legalized suicide is that it will morph into a responsibility to commit suicide.
An excellent point.
Since I have a fundamental distrust of what society teaches - especially today - that only adds to my concerns of assisted dying laws.
No one should feel they have a responsibility to kill themselves. But the final choice is theirs. I’ll respect someone’s choice as long as they aren’t putting the burden on another person (like standing in front of a train) and they aren’t trying to take along company for their final journey.
I may have a divergent opinion with you here. For years i've contemplated what good might be accomplished by people nearing death, finding some horrible person that needs to go first, and helping them along.
I won't name any names, but I think we can all look around and see some authoritarian type people who we wish someone would put out of our misery.
It would be a public service! A last gift to mankind! What's more, the State will provide continuous medical care to the end! :)
And i'm only half joking here.
