The problem is that Hospice can turn you down for not being sick enough to die. I suspect that could be the case here
Maybe, but if he was bad enough shape they would take him, I suspect he wanted to make a grand exit and promote Assisted Suicide. He may not even have considered Hospice. My own father was 93, had been in good shape, but his last best friend died and he gave up and wanted to die, so Hospice took him. They maybe a little more lax in standards that we think. I will never have another family member in Hospice if I can do so.
