The 10th stage of the Tour de France was halted for 10 minutes on Tuesday after half a dozen climate activists tried to stop riders on the road before being pulled out by police and a senior organisers' official.
The activists, one of them wearing a t-shirt saying 'We have 989 days left', sat on the road some 36 kilometres (22 miles) from the finish in Megeve.
The activists were pulled off the road by police, helped by Tour organisers' Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) general director Yann Le Moenner.
Contacted by Reuters, ASO declined to comment.
Stage leader Alberto Bettiol rode through a cloud of pink from a flare before being asked by a race official to get off his bike just before organisers said the stage had been stopped.
Ten minutes later, race director Christian Prudhomme ordered racing to resume.

Flogging them is not the answer. Set them each to present their case in civil debate about climate change and expose their gross ignorance. Have the debate be online so if they start screaming instead of being civil they can be muted so they can’t disrupt the other side debunking them.

The protestors, regardless of their cause and rage, should be an obstacle the riders must fight their way through to win that stage. Those riders who can’t get through, get a funny looking shirt to wear for the next stage, along with a time penalty. Depending on how it goes for the next Tour or two, the riders might be able to arm themselves for this stage of the Tour.

Yeah, we used to, but then we became too civilized to actually enforce the law. That’s why we have millions of dirtbag libertarians living in tents on the streets and staying stoned, viz. because we’re too civilized to uphold vagrancy and loitering laws.
It’s a huge stretch to call them libertarians!
