Editor’s Note: There are many ways in which I often disagree with Caitlin Johnstone. I absolutely respect her intellect and writing skill and most of the time I agree with her perspectives, but sometimes we diverge. On the issue of Ukraine, I agree with her wholeheartedly. Just as Americans woke up to the realities of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, opposing them eventually despite widely approving of them in the beginning, so too do I hope more Americans will realize we’re being sold a false narrative in order to get our dollars and potentially our troops over to one of the most corrupt countries in the world. I support the Ukrainian people and their plight, but we are far too involved in this regional conflict thanks in large part to propaganda and gaslighting. Here’s Caitlin…
Noam Chomsky, John Pilger, and Chris Hedges have lent their expertise to the subject of the war in Ukraine with some recent comments that help bring some much-needed clarity to an often confusing and always contentious issue. Here they are:
“I’ve spent my career working in the mainstream, and I’ve covered probably seven, eight, nine shooting wars; I’ve never seen coverage so utterly consumed by a tsunami of jingoism, and of manipulative jingoism as this one.” ~ John Pilger
This comment comes from a recent interview with the legendary Australian journalist by the South China Morning Post, and it says so much about the information ecosystem we now find ourselves floundering around trying to understand things in.

Hm, I wonder where ChoMoeJoe and Punter Pie will try to hide when things get really rough for them here in the USA? Probably not the Ukraine, as by the time they decide to take that route, the place will be a smoking hole in the ground.
Stupid people are always moved by good propaganda.
And they don’t have a clue why. Or that they’ve been moved at all.
It seems organic to them.
Sometimes smart people fall for it, too. They may figure it out, but may never say anything because today, consistency is seen as being a value as far as opinions are concerned. The society of the internet has the perception and reactions of a typical four-year-old. Everything is dumbed down.
I’ve been reading “The Story of Philosophy” (Durant) and am on the chapter about Francis Bacon, who addressed what we currently call “bias confirmation.”
Anyway, the first video is good. I am watching it right now.
The Democrats must have been doing some really awful stuff in Ukraine.
Anyone who still supports the Democrats supports an evil, criminal organization.
No plan for peace - they want it to go on on and on and continue ripping off America 🤪
2-D Chess: This is about Ukraine.
3-D Chess: This is about Ukraine and sending an implicit warning to China. It is cheaper to fight the battle in Ukraine, and discourage China from seizing TSMC, than to fight China over Taiwan.
Did he miss COVID and what happens if you question the vaccination, the quarantine or advocate an off label use of a non-patented medication? Off to the Gulag with you for interfering with the medical-industrial complex.
Oh, and you are absolutely right about Chomsky regarding COVID. “Noam Chomsky says the unvaccinated should just remove themselves from society”. How’s that for drinking the cherry Flavor-Aid? ( https://nationalpost.com/news/world/noam-chomsky-says-the-unvaccinated-should-just-remove-themselves-from-society )
Ukraine is a shiitehole country, and we have no business getting involved. Yet, our “leaders” *spit* are dumping billions into it, with no accountability.
No accountability, on purpose.
Soon, it will be, “The US is responsible for the rebuilding!” just watch.
So many stupid people here in the US.
I don’t think over-repetition of the phrase “unprovoked invasion” means they know they’re lying... it could also (and I think does) mean they want us to think Russia is wrong. Those are actually two independent possibilities... they could both be true, or neither; there could be a third possibility. Probably is.

And those “countless experts” who warned this was coming... they’re all talking about different things. Countless experts did not warn us that if we continued to tempt Ukraine into joining NATO, but before they actually did so, Russia would invade Ukraine.
This Ukrainian war was about as unprovoked as our war in Iraq, as far as I can see.
Yeah. It’s worth reading all the way through, following links, watching the vid, etc. Jeez, at least someone is thinking straight about this stuff. For whatever good it’s going to do.
Liberals are always a little unstuck in time.

This is a very cogent observation.
Regardless of election outcomes, things are going to be crappy for a while. I suspect the GOP is going to have a lot of wins (in spite of the GOP establishment) and likely to win the presidency in 2024.
But some of this stuff is going to be very hard to fix.
I try not to think of all the $$$ we’ve wasted on the Ukraine to the point.
You had better hope that's completely wrong, because in Ukraine we got nothing for Putin in the long run. He has the current resources to ratchet it up and the oil/gas income to keep it ratcheted up. We have Biden and a relatively small number of high-tech artillery systems which Ukrainians aren't trained for and which they cannot protect.
Hello?
Both Russia and the West will be weakened and impoverished in this war. Qui bono? China. And China is smiling.
While we drain our strategic oil reserves to the tune of a million barrels a day (and just shipped a million barrels to China), China is filling up its own strategic oil reserve, mainly with cheap Russian oil — which will help them withstand sanctions should they decide to invade Taiwan.
