Monticello is going woke — and trashing Thomas Jefferson’s legacy in the process

Monticello is going woke — and trashing Thomas Jefferson’s good name in the process.

The Charlottesville, Virginia, home of the Founding Father and America’s third president is one of our best-known national monuments, familiar from its appearance on the nickel since 1938.

But the hilltop mansion designed by Jefferson himself, once preserved as a tribute to the author of the Declaration of Independence, now offers visitors a harangue on the horrors of slavery.

“The whole thing has the feel of propaganda and manipulation,” Jeffrey Tucker, founder of the libertarian Brownstone Institute and a recent visitor, told The Post. “People on my tour seemed sad and demoralized.”

The new emphasis is the culmination of a 10-year effort to balance the historical record, officials of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, the nonprofit that owns the estate, have said.

But visitors complain that employees go out of their way to belittle Jefferson and his life.

“The tour guides play ‘besmirchment derby,’ never missing a chance to defame this brilliant, complex man,” Stephen Owen of Enochville, NC, wrote on Facebook.

RINOs have taken over the Reagan Library. That is worse imo.

I visited Grant’s Farm near St Louis and found the same thing there. Got tired of hearing about slavery in the presentations. Grant’s father-in-law had slaves.

Trump predicted this would happen.

And it will get worse unless . . .

Maybe the visitors should get in the faces of the tour guides and give them what for?

That's what I was thinking. Know your history and let'em have it.

I went to a “ghost tour” a few years ago at the Kentucky home of Cassius Clay, a cousin of the more famous Henry Clay.

Instead of a “ghost tour”, I’d call it more of a “Let’s Hate Cassius Clay” night. He owned slaves but, like Henry, was anti-slavery, wanting to phase it out slowly, but this makes no difference to the woke.

We noticed this when we visited during Hussein’s regime. Lots of gaslighting and hate whitey.

I loved when they talked about how horrible the enslaved people were treated and in the same area you saw the fine bone china that was the property of the enslaved people after they had been sent to Paris by their eeevvvviiiilll masters to learn the culinary arts

Grant didn’t like slavery. The slaves on his farm belonged to his father in law. And grant worked along side them.

Kind of hard to make him a slave holding jerk.

I believe NYS removed the Jefferson Statue from the Legislative chambers.

Doesn’t matter. The private foundations that write the checks dictate the scripts. We visited Charleston and Savannah in January. The guides admitted to us that their scripts were being re-written.

“The slaves on his farm belonged to his father in law.”

If Grant's wife is to be believed, she owned slaves too.

Grant benefited from slavery and, at one time, owned a slave out-right.

But legend has it “Grant fought to free the slaves.” That will protect his legacy; until it doesn't.

We have visited Monticello twice. On our last visit, about 2 years ago, we decided it would be our last because of the propaganda. Disgusting.

It’s been a big project for the left to tarnish the reputations of the Founding Fathers so that they can say the the Constitution should be scrapped. I loathe these people.

We have been to Mount Vernon 3 times. Happy to say that there has been little of this garbage there. Of course, a lot may have changed since our last visit, which was about 4 years ago.

Thank you, DFG:
I am a product of the 1960s/1970s “academical village” of Mr. Jefferson. I live on an old homestead across the James River SE of C’ville. My wife was a C’ville native. We knew the city when it was a delight.

I cannot express how heartsick I am to see this desecration. My liberal daughter who was to take a management position at U.VA. fled to Maine with her doctor husband just because of the woke insanity.

The cancer has metastasized from U.VA: Albemarle County & C’ville City management are all members of the Staatssicherheitsdienst.

Prep and pray for America and the Trump family & never register/give up your guns. The light at the end of the tunnel is a muzzle flash.

Shalom.

I was there 4 years ago also. It was August, and I read the speech at George Washington’s tomb. There was a lady there who was really impressed with the way I read it.
