I'm in a sh*tty mood today. I will be heading to the Caan family to pay my respects. There's only a number who were OK'd to visit, and I'm one of the lucky ones
My hero and mentor in Hollywood.
Jimmy Caan gave me one of my first breaks in the business. I dont want to say which series but I (literally) told him about my problem with a douche studio guy who wont green light my project when I already spent $$ on the first 3 episodes, and this was many years ago.
One call from Jim and that studio guy spoke to me like I was his long-lost son. He made an offer he couldnt refuse. ;) Will never, ever forget it. Every year on a certain date, I would send him a certain Whisky, and he knows it's from me.
and you could talk to him like one of the guys from politics to everything. And he would prefer to talk about light-hearted things borderline private.
Him: "so what do you think of Trump?" Me: "enough of that. Who did you really sleep with on El Dorado?" I could get away with this stuff because I know him. A lot of people are "scared" of him. he didnt like you, you will know it. He took me under his wing and he's a solid guy. A true man's man and no woke BS. Hated texting and he would say "I'm old school, just F****** call me, I'm not gonna press this stupid buttons to talk to you, I know it's you". So I would just call him direct. Always.
and he would always confirm things about John Wayne that the general public does not necc. know, and that half ass interview he gave is just the tip of the iceberg. The Duke and Jim will have a party in Heaven.
RIP old school stud.
Sure hope he got to influence some up and comers who can try to emulate him………..
I’m very sorry for your loss of such a good friend. I first saw him when he was Sonny Corleone and I’ve liked him ever since. You’re lucky to have had such a good friend.
Thank you for sharing this. Caan remains one of my favourite actors, and I am glad to hear that he truly was a solid guy.
Condolences on the passing of one of my favorite actors. I have to ask, did you hang out with him at Hef’s place back in the day?
I am sorry about your loss of a real friend.
I actually saw the original ‘Rollerball’ at the theater...enjoyed the hell out of it...I am very sorry you lost your friend...my condolences to you and Mr. Caan’s family and friends.
James Caan was one of those actors where you might not remember his name but when you saw his face you knew it was probably going to be a good movie. Sorry for your personal loss, it’s hard losing those relationships.
Hey at least he didn’t call you a Canadian. :)
I used to have a crush on James Caan.
I am overly pleased to learn that he was conservative.
Peace be with you.
Give his family hugs from Free Republic.
and keep up the good work: firing libs every chance you get
Another great sequence from that movie, 1981’s “Thief”:

(And yes, that was a real bank vault door and a real thermal lance!)
no prob dude
TY! I will make sure we hire another abortionist lefty around October. 2 years ago it was a transvestite..
Who did you really sleep with on El Dorado?
That would be Michele Carey who he dated for a year.
LOL...interesting!
(whistling)
Sorry to hear about this. Great actor!
My favorite scene was in the bar with Dodger [Farnsworth], when Robard's man came around mouthing off.
I liked that his character didn't talk much because he was busy taking care of business.
I repaired many safes that were cracked.
took notes too
He said in the commentary section of the Criterion DVD release of “Thief” that, subsequent to the movie, his sister purchased a house with a floor safe she couldn’t open...so he drilled it open for her.
Caan also had high praise for the Hoag longslide .45 he used in the movie. In another interview, he said that he would have kept it if he could.
