I'm in a sh*tty mood today. I will be heading to the Caan family to pay my respects. There's only a number who were OK'd to visit, and I'm one of the lucky ones
My hero and mentor in Hollywood.
Jimmy Caan gave me one of my first breaks in the business. I dont want to say which series but I (literally) told him about my problem with a douche studio guy who wont green light my project when I already spent $$ on the first 3 episodes, and this was many years ago.
One call from Jim and that studio guy spoke to me like I was his long-lost son. He made an offer he couldnt refuse. ;) Will never, ever forget it. Every year on a certain date, I would send him a certain Whisky, and he knows it's from me.
and you could talk to him like one of the guys from politics to everything. And he would prefer to talk about light-hearted things borderline private.
Him: "so what do you think of Trump?" Me: "enough of that. Who did you really sleep with on El Dorado?" I could get away with this stuff because I know him. A lot of people are "scared" of him. he didnt like you, you will know it. He took me under his wing and he's a solid guy. A true man's man and no woke BS. Hated texting and he would say "I'm old school, just F****** call me, I'm not gonna press this stupid buttons to talk to you, I know it's you". So I would just call him direct. Always.
and he would always confirm things about John Wayne that the general public does not necc. know, and that half ass interview he gave is just the tip of the iceberg. The Duke and Jim will have a party in Heaven.
that character was based on a certain Democrat politician whom he despised. I wont say it on the board..
Sorry for the loss to you, his family, and America. Wonderful post you made about who he was as a man. Thank you for writing this.
Thanks for this nice memorial post. Condolences to his family.
So everybody will see it. Tnks for the post.
So sorry about your friend, Max.
My condolences.
I grew up in a test market for cable TV. First-run movies in the house from the early ‘70s... Rollerball, Freebie and the Bean...
So sorry you lost your friend Max. My prayers for his soul and may someday, a long way off, you meet again and join the party.
Death is not an ending, it’s merely a parting.
RIP. My condolences to friends and family.
James Caan will be missed.
I've heard stories about him as well, all good.
Especially in the "low tolerance for BS" department.
RIP Mr. James Caan.
Losing a good friend is always difficult. May he Rest In Peace.
Give your condolences to the family and celebrate his life of success.
I loved James Caan. A man’s man. One of my moms favorite stars. Top 5 and my mom was acquainted with Duke from our days growing up in Newport.
I remember he was on the cover of a karate magazine donning a black belt back in the early-mid 90s, so he was also an accomplished martial artist.
Makes sense
I enjoyed the movie when it came out
Thanks for sharing this with us, and it confirms my thoughts that Caan was a decent person and not your typical Hollywood weirdo.
Rest in peace and condolences to James Caan family and friends.
Very interesting. Thanks for the info.
I don’t really care about many people in Hollywood, but Caan is an exception. Really excellent actor. Condolences to his family and friends.
Condolences, RIP James Caan.
Gosh, he was prolific. I’ve never been a big movie-goer and while I knew of him (I think I saw ‘Rabbit Run’ and ‘The Godfather’) I never realized he was in so much:

What a loss!!
The world is worse off today without James in it!!!
Looked and seemed like a no non sense, real man!!!!!
