I'm in a sh*tty mood today. I will be heading to the Caan family to pay my respects. There's only a number who were OK'd to visit, and I'm one of the lucky ones
My hero and mentor in Hollywood.
Jimmy Caan gave me one of my first breaks in the business. I dont want to say which series but I (literally) told him about my problem with a douche studio guy who wont green light my project when I already spent $$ on the first 3 episodes, and this was many years ago.
One call from Jim and that studio guy spoke to me like I was his long-lost son. He made an offer he couldnt refuse. ;) Will never, ever forget it. Every year on a certain date, I would send him a certain Whisky, and he knows it's from me.
and you could talk to him like one of the guys from politics to everything. And he would prefer to talk about light-hearted things borderline private.
Him: "so what do you think of Trump?" Me: "enough of that. Who did you really sleep with on El Dorado?" I could get away with this stuff because I know him. A lot of people are "scared" of him. he didnt like you, you will know it. He took me under his wing and he's a solid guy. A true man's man and no woke BS. Hated texting and he would say "I'm old school, just F****** call me, I'm not gonna press this stupid buttons to talk to you, I know it's you". So I would just call him direct. Always.
and he would always confirm things about John Wayne that the general public does not necc. know, and that half ass interview he gave is just the tip of the iceberg. The Duke and Jim will have a party in Heaven.
Thanks for the reminisces.
Super sad that you lost your friend Max. He was a great actor, I always liked him
He always seemed like “a solid guy.” That’s a great epitaph.
Thanks for this.
RIP
Maybe he can meet up with Immanuel Kant and discuss what they Caan and Kant do.
Max I’m sorry you’ve lost a good friend.
I didn’t know Mr Caan’s personality or politics; it’s good to know he was a straight shooter and on the right side of things. I’ll enjoy his work even more now.
Hoping you have a good and comforting journey.
Please express my sympathy as well. I’ve loved James Caan in every role I’ve seen him in. Great actor, and I’m guessing by your posting, that he’s a great man as well. That’s way more important.
I just read your FReeper page. I’m guessing you’re over 30 now but seriously have no idea.
Again, my condolences.
The first movie I saw Caan in wasn’t Rollerball; it was Brian’s Song. A real tear-jerker.
He sounds like he was a rarity in Hollywood. RIP
I briefly met him once, in 1980, when I was 14 years old. My friend’s house was used in the movie “Hide in Plain Sight.” A group of us got to see what a real movie set looked like.
With so many Hollywood d-bags spouting off these days, it’s good to hear that James Caan was a stand-up manly guy. RIP.
Please pass on what I’m sure will be many requests of sympathy and condolences my friend.
Sounds like you have many fond memories and the way you describe Mr. Caan is how I always thought he probably really was in person.
I know it sucks but I’m sure the family will be greatly comforted by your presence.
Regards, V_TWIN
Watched him and Schwarzenegger in “Eraser” just recently. Prayers for his family.
He signed my Rollerball BLU RAY with “You’re an Ass**** Love Jim”
He was also a Trump supporter.
He always seemed like a good guy, with a good attitude to match.
We really need more people like that.
LOL!
no prob
