Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner pleaded guilty to a drug charge Thursday in a Russian court.
"I'd like to plead guilty, your honor. But there was no intent. I didn't want to break the law," Griner said in court. "I'd like to give my testimony later. I need time to prepare."
"If she wants to return home and she believes they're working on a prisoner swap, the faster that this proceeding ends, the faster she can get home," said William Pomeranz, an expert on Russian law.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said members of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow attended the hearing and "delivered to her a letter from President Biden."
"We will not relent until Brittney, Paul Whelan, and all other wrongfully detained Americans are reunited with their loved ones," Blinken stated in the tweet.
Bringing Griner home 'a priority' for the U.S. Griner has been behind bars since Feb. 17 when she flew into a Moscow airport and Russian customs officials allegedly found vape cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage. She has been under investigation for the large-scale transportation of drugs.
In court Thursday, Griner told the court she accidentally packed the vape cartridges in her luggage.
A day after Griner sent a handwritten letter to President Joe Biden, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Tuesday that Griner's release "is a priority for this president."

Accidently my a**
Notice how different today’s mass media coverage is:
—No mention of “her wife”
—No mention of her race
—No “Putin war criminal” talk
The “word” has come down from on high—they finally figured out that Woke propaganda and name calling with Putin is not gonna get it done.
She used the Hillary home brew server defense:
“no intent”
Thanks for that little gem...
Why? She did the crime, she should do the time. She isn’t special. If it was an everyday person who screwed up and took drugs into a country that prohibits them would we even hear about it. I for one am tired of exceptions for “special” people. That she hates America is icing on the cake. Some people have to learn things the hard way. So be it.
Plenty of pine trees to cut in Siberia. And the oil fields there need workers.
Send Hunter Biden and Megan Rapinoe to negotiate her release.
Karma is a you know what. America hater Griner probably voted for Biden, pleaded with him by letter to help get her release, but is no doubt beginning to realize he won’t do anything for her. The irony is Trump would of no doubt attempted to get her release if he was still in office. If he went to bat for a rapper who was charged for assault in Sweden he would of tried to help Griner in Russia. Brittney, I hope you realize now that elections do have CONSEQUENCES!

Kneels during the National Anthem....hates America. Now she wants us to save her @ss. Mmmmmmkay.
trade?
naa....
they can keep her.
20 bucks says she’ll be back to bad-mouthing the US within a month of being home.
‘Accidentally...’ LOL...ten years, skank.
Think Putin (a Trump lover of course) will give Biden the W?
I don’t
can we just send um one way? before Megan gets any medals from Obiden please.
A good plan
They need to give her the max sentence for that particular crime as given to others. Then they have leverage to get the worst of the worst in our prisons in a swap..and they will get it.
Biden will cave...but he better get Paul Whelan too.
Yep, and she can stay there for at least 10 years. Good riddance to her. And her so-called “wife” should move to Russia to be near her, to visit, and support. Good riddance to her as well. Bye!
I do too. But there are other Americans jailed in Russia - some for years - including two U.S. Marine vets. I wonder what Biden is doing about them.
