Walrus disrupts boating in Kragerø A large walrus has been hanging around in the southern Norwegian coastal town of Kragerø after around 5,000 kilometers of documented travel from the Arctic south to the Shetland Islands and Denmark and north again. The walrus, dubbed “Freya,” isn’t particularly welcome, though.

Freya has become a local attraction, but Kragerø Mayor Grunde Wegard Knudsen of the Center Party told state broadcaster NRK that the town’s hospitality is wearing thin. That’s because the walrus has been plopping itself into boats, sleeping for hours on popular piers and blocking access to marinas because it can be dangerous to humans.

NRK reported that the large walrus also entangled itself in some tow ropes and had to be cut loose, and has damaged several boats. Knudsen, whose party has long wanted to shoot wolves and other predators, thinks the city now needs to rid itself of the walrus, either by moving it or killing it.

“I want to find a solution, so the professionals must offer the best one,” he told NRK, “either if it means capturing it and carting it away or, in the worst case, destroying it.”

Shoot it, dress it out, donate the blubber to a native American Tribe, and take the tax deduction.

Clearly this walrus would not be doing this except for climate change Putin and racism.

In the video she is destroying expensive new boats as modern people stand watching hopelessly, this would have been solved the instant it became a problem in the past, when western men were problem solvers.

Common in Washington and Oregon, illegal to harass them so you have to prevent them from getting on your boat or guard it

How about anchoring a raft nearby loaded with walrus treats (whatever they would be) and make that Freya’s special place to rest and soak up the sun. And spray the boats with predator (sharks?) smell. I keep rabbits out of my garden by spraying around it with coyote pee.

The Traditional Eskimo use for Walrus hide! (After you eat the walrus!)

The Sami in northern Norway used to hunt walrus.

"Waterproof clothes and bags were made of walrus guts, skins, seal fur and the skin of ringed seals. Walrus tusks and bones were used to make arrowheads, knife handles, glasses to protect the eyes from excess light, household utensils, amulets and jewellery."

Walrus dig up clams with their tusks from the sea bottom and eat them by the ton. When the Alaskan Aleuts harvest one, the first thing they eat is the partially digested clams from the walrus stomach. Some pilot bread and it makes a great shore lunch I’m told.
