Where to move in retirement?

Posted on 07/02/2022 7:41:27 AM PDT by LouAvul

I'm in Oklahoma and appreciate the politics (Constitutional Carry; outlawed abortion) but don't like the weather.

I've lived in Florida, Ohio, Alabama, North Carolina, Michigan, Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky and California. I like the weather in Michigan and California but don't like the politics.

I'd like milder summers and can handle cold winters. Long spring and fall weather is good.

Retirement age and all, so good medicine is important.

By the time we make the move (~2 to 3 years, likely) whatever adjustment the housing market will make will be done. Don't anticipate having to finance anything, etc.

Also, I'm a firearms "accumulator." Carry concealed 90% of the time and that's important. Constitutional firearms laws are always important.

What says the FR braintrust?

“Have you looked at the influx of blue-staters to Tennessee?”

We came to eastern TN in 2010, and are now retired. Over the last year we’ve had an influx of newbies in our area, which had us worried when we saw the license plates. When we started speaking with them we learned they’re all extremely conservative.

I don’t think the Northern/Union red states would be too thrilled with that name. I live in Missouri which was a split state during the CW.

How about the Federation? Too Trekie?

Western US, Central US, Eastern US

Sure will be some funky walls.

Prescott AZ is a beautiful place but if you like the perks of the city like me, there’s not much going on there and you’re an hour and a half away from Scottsdale/Phoenix perks.

Isn’t Texas either humid or windy depending on the location? I looked into moving there but the humidity/wind had me looking elsewhere.

The general population was kinda sketchy when I lived there. I guess you get used to it.

Excellent point. Atlanta needs a wall built around it.

Do not go to North Carolina. It is getting ridiculous and going blue there. We left for South Carolina a year ago after many, many years in NC.

I’ve never lived or spent much time in the Panhandle area. One thing to remember that as one moves westward across Oklahoma the climate and topography changes significantly. Eastern Oklahoma is very much like the Southern states, hilly and moist. Western Oklahoma is fairly flat and arid.

It's not that humid if you get 150 to 200 miles inland from the coast. Most of the wind is in central, west, and north Texas.
