A cop friend and defense attorney both told me that I would have chest pains and I should immediately be transported to the hospital. And I would be in too much pain to say anything.
Your second sentence might apply in Podunk Alabama, but in police departments that actually work, cops don’t want to make arrests if they can avoid it. Too much paperwork. But…in a shooting—justified or not—you are going for a ride.
“My name is ________. I’d like an attorney.”
Nothing else at all. Just that until an attorney is present to represent you. Their Tip 7 is on the money.

Just for a different perspective, there are knowledgeable people out there who advise not to be the one to call 911 if you don’t have to. The 911 operator is going to do everything they can to get you to tell them what happened, and it will be recorded. You’re putting yourself in a position to have to make a statement.

Unless you are in the city and there are people standing around filming you on their cell phones, finish the job.
Ask to go to the hospital. Buys time and looks good to a jury if your ever on trial. Stress induced heart issues. Go to the hospital!

Say that you are the victim and you feared for your life. Cooperate with the police but don’t say anything else except that you want to speak with your attorney.
I’m pretty sure that anything that someone else says that you said is hearsay and inadmissible in court.
