Would you live with 100 roaches for $2k? Raleigh company makes offer

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – If your skin crawls at the mention of bugs like spiders or roaches, you may want to pass on this news article. A Raleigh-based pest control company is offering money to homeowners willing to live with cockroaches.

Typically, finding roaches in your home means breaking out the Raid and roach traps. For people with Katsaridaphobia, a fear of roaches, it could also mean just picking up and finding a new home all together.

The Pest Informer announced they are willing to pay $2,000 if you let them release about 100 American cockroaches in your home. They want to test out a specific pest control technique to gauge how effective the treatment is.

The company is looking for five to seven homeowners to participate. Homeowners would need to grant The Pest Informer permission to film and test the treatment in their home. The study would last about 30 days.

The company laid out the following rules:

- You must own the home or have written approval from the homeowner.

- You must be 21 years or older to qualify.

- You must be located in the Continental United States

- All tested cockroach treatments will be family and pet safe.

- You must not try any additional cockroach treatments during the duration of the study.

- At the end of the study, if the cockroach infestation hasn’t been eliminated, we will use traditional cockroach treatment options at no cost to you.

- The duration of this study will be approximately 30days.

With careful handling, 100 roaches could be rolled up into one giant spliff. Then you’d be sitting on a full dance card for the evening.

That’s an easy answer...NO! You can get some people to do anything for money. I’m not one of those people.

Not on your life. I don’t mind spiders, snakes, gators or other insects. But I cannot tolerate the heinous cockaroach!

But for 5k I’d consider it.

Live with a lousy 100 roaches for 30 days?

Heck, for 6 years, from the ages of 6-12 my family and I lived with THOUSANDS of roaches.

We were dirt poor, living in a crummy 2 family apartment house. I do not know if our neighbor downstairs had to live with all those roaches, but we did in our apartment. Landlord was just too damn mean and cheap to hire exterminators to get rid of the damn things once and for all.

Many was the time, after dark I’d enter the kitchen. I’d flick on the light switch and every single square inch of kitchen counter space was completely covered with a layer of roaches. But the very second I turned on the kitchen light, with a skittering sound, all of the roaches would scramble to go back to their hiding spaces within the walls. It was AMAZING how those thousands upon thousands of roaches made themselves disappear so quickly, literally within seconds.

Mother tried to get rid of them with the use of those “roaches motels”. Oh, they worked in capturing cockroaches. But only small handfuls out of the thousands that existed. It was like trying to treat a gushing gunshot wound with a band aid.

By the time we moved out, a couple of mice had also made themselves at home with us and the cockroaches.

If the world ever goes full scale nuclear war. The two things that will survive are roaches and lilacs. IMO

Bless your heart. 😟

We recently had a prob. Son came back home from his dorm hall and we had the German variety (uni wouldn’t exterminate). Then our neighbor cleared their back lot and we got Palmetto bugs. Ick!

Had an exterminator for several months.

We never had a problem before. The occasional mouse...sometimes brown recluse (which sticky traps did a good job).

I notice no one from the pest control company is stepping up to the plate on this deal.

100 roaches can multiply pretty damn quick. There will be nothing they have not investigated as they search for food, everything you own, I mean everything will be affected by these creatures.

$2000 does not even scratch the surface for the amount of money one needs to put up with for such an asinine deal.

Try $200,000 if the home is a shack with problems, but if it's a nice home with no problems, I would take no less than $1,000,000. That is because the misery one will be dealing with as the eggs get inside the walls and inside your personal belonings.

Lived in GA back in the late “70”. Had very little money, since I was in the service still. My wife and I had very little money so all we could afford was a crummy place in an old rundown apartment complex. Turned out to be roach filled complex. To this day I'm traumatized.

I remember going to the store to get a few cans of Raid Roach killer. As I stood at the counter with the spray cans on the checkout counter, one those creatures from hell dropped off my head. The lady at the register was quick, she pushed off to the floor and smashed the creature without blinking an eye.

Then she looked at me with a smirk and asks, “You sure have enough of that honey?”

I felt disgusting, and said, “No”, and decided to get two more cans. The moment our Month was up we moved into a motel room until we could find a new place, but I kept finding the little bastards in my things after I moved out. I remember we took all our crap and dumping it in the lawn so we could saturate it with bug spray. We ended up tossing 75% of our things away, and still felt disgusted.

My prediction is this company will never ever come upon with a better way to kill and remove that which man has attempted to rid itself of since near the time when roaches were created as a nuisance for our sins, and the people who take them up on the deal are going to wonder why they are so stupid as to take a deal like that.

Or take a roach, place it between the heads of two paper matches, ignite the matches and allow the flame to engulf the roach. Blow out, snort smoke.

Similar sensation to piercing one’s skull with an ice pick.

Relating for a stranger.

“I’m from the South. Roaches are a constant companion.”

I’m in lower Alabama. Don’t get me started. Not the little ones, none of those. Just the ones that look like they could carry off a small child. Went to my sister’s house yesterday to look at her newly remodeled bathroom. Immaculately clean. There was a three incher crawling around on the shower wall. And there’s nothing you can do to prevent them.
