GARDNER, Ks. (KCTV) - A group of truckers thought they were safe to stay the night in a Walmart parking lot.
But when Gina Eager and others woke up to roll out they found an unwelcome surprise.
“When we went to go pick up our load we found out we had a boot,” Eager said.
Eager said she spent the morning talking with a store manager, as well as Walmart’s corporate office. She said she was told unauthorized truck parking is not allowed at the store, and that she and the other drivers would have to pay towing fees
Several signs posted around the lot warned drivers that their trucks could be towed if they parked in the lot without permission. But Eager said she has never had a problem parking at other stores for her mandatory 10 hour rest period in between trips.

As far as Walmart will withhold judgement pending the rest of the story, however, why couldn't they knock on the door warning the trucker they're about to be "booted".
Walmart tends to be heavy handed in anything they do, at least as of late.
However, since I don’t know the area there may be good reason for doing this, like too many trucks at once.
What happens when truckers refuse to deliver to Walmart?
Reality sets in.
Deliveries to Walmart retail locations come on their own trucks.
Walmart, like all retail these days, has high customer theft.
But this they worry about? 🙄
Gardner is well outside the Kansas City area but this particular Walmart is not far off I -35.
I shopped there, occasionally, more than 10 years ago. Maybe once since then.
Walmart always welcomed truckers and campers to stay in their lots at night. For one thing, these people will usually shop there as well.
Are they going to do this to the campers too?
The "trip" was defined as being in or on any moving device
Plane, train, boat, car, taxi, uber, bicycle, skateboard...
At that point Spokeshave quit.
The only thing I can think of is that too many truckers at once have been taking up space and inhibiting the regular customer.
That’s the only reason I can think of for any possible change in policy.
Trucks are hard on parking lot surfaces. Pothole Pete was to prioritize Truck parking in the infrastructure bill according to OOIDA.
Walmart has had an informal policy of allowing this sort of thing in many locations, but there are typically two reasons why they crack down on it at specific stores:
1. The store may be located in a shopping center where overnight parking is prohibited under a lease provision or a municipal zoning regulation.
2. In areas where crime is a problem, their lawyers or insurance carriers tell them to prohibit overnight parking to protect themselves from lawsuits by crime victims on their property.
I assume that you are talking about the Monroe Rest Areas off I-75 between OH 129 and OH 63. Those are always crowded.

As far as Walmart is concerned the one near me has always had signs prohibiting Semi-Trucks, but they welcome RV’s. It’s their property. They can do what they want.
There looks to be a TA Truck Stop two exits South on I-35 where they all could have all parked
3. Ill-mannered truck drivers ruin it for the rest of them by leaving garbage (and worse) behind after parking overnight.
My guess is that the Truck Stop charges a fee for overnight parking. Perhaps she was trying to save some money.
It’s their property. They can do what they want.
Agree...100%
Woke manager, angered by the truckers protest.
sorry to be the fart in the car, but if there were clearly posted signs, then the “Boot” is on the drivers. I drove for a few years, and especially the east coast, not too many like big trucks. ya learn to go in, unload and get the hell out of there then find somewhere to take a nap...
” It’s their property. They can do what they want.”
I agree. But someone had to “boot” the truck, IMHO it would have been courteous to give the trucker a warning (e.g., if you’re here in 5 minutes I have to boot you).
But there are at least 2 sides to every story, it could be Walmart had to resort to booting to control the problem.
Rule of thumb is to always speak to a manager first - different stores have differing policies.
A 5-minute conversation could save you a ton of aggravation.
It’s been my experience that Truckers abused the privilege parking on WM’s property by trashing it up including leaving their bodily functions for them to clean up...Seen it happen, don’t blame WM a bit...Let this be a good lesson to the one’s in the story.
