The BMPT-72, or Terminator 2, is fitted with a new unmanned fully stabilized electromechanical turret, with a lower profile and better protection. The main armament of the BMPT-72 turret consists of two 30mm automatic 2A42 guns and one PKTM 7.62mm coaxial machine gun which can be used against light armored vehicles and manpower. The guns can fire a wide range of ammunitions such as APERS-T (Anti-Personnel ammunitions), HEF-I (High-explosive Fragmentation Incendiary), AP-T (Armour Piercing)., and KE (Kinetic Energy). Two Ataka-T anti-tank guided missile launchers are mounted on each side of the turret. The 9M1201 missiles can be armed with two types of warhead: hollow-charge, and high-explosive concrete-piercing. The BMPT-72 is equipped with a computerized fire control system with a multichannel sighting system and weapon high-accuracy laying systems. The vehicle carries 850 rounds for the 30mm guns and 2,100 rounds for the 7.62mm machine gun. The turret protection includes armored shields for the missiles, protecting them from splinters and the firing of small arms. The turret can be rotated at 360 ° with an elevation from -5° to +25° for the anti-tank missiles, and from -5° to +45° for the guns and coaxial machine gun. The anti-tank missiles can engage a target up to a maximum distance of 6,000 m while the guns have a maximum range of 2,500 against light armored vehicles and 4,000 m against light tactical vehicles and troops. A screening system increases the self-protection of the BMPT-72 which is designed to counter laser target-designators and laser rangefinders. Six smoke grenade launchers are mounted on each side of the turret. When the screening system warns the crew of laser tracking, a smoke screen is created by the launch of grenades.

Hope he’s got some really good ear plugs.

Somebody has been watching too many movies.
So, I have been informed by someone in the ‘know’ that the Russian Reactive armor is disarmed when the hatches of the tank are open. That’s why we have been seeing piles of these around completely destroyed tanks. It’s a safety measure, as if the reactive armor goes off with the hatches open, it tends to kill the crew.
If you look at this vehicle, the visual is so poor that crew opens the hatches to see out, and negates the defensive capability.
I could make cleaner welds than that in high school shop class. Looks like an expensive POS.
Yeah, you look at the top view, those muzzle breaks are right there even with the tank commanders head. Would not want to be shooting with the hatch open.
Of course the earplugs wont help reduce the Javelin concussion.
That truly sounds like a feature OUR woke military would implement, frankly.
There are 4 variants to date of the BMPT.
the BMPT-1 has uncovered missile tubes 2 on each side stacked one on top of the other. The BMPT-2 has the covered fold out missile launchers, 2 on each side mounted next to each other. Both have a pair of 30mm grenade launchers in the hull next to the 2 crew hatches. The BMPT-3 is based on the T-14 ARMATA hull. They have 2 hatches in the hull side by side inboard of the 300 grenade launchers.
The BMPT-72 is a turret mode that can be installed on a T-72 hull and replacing the 125mm tank gun turret. It does NOT have the 30mm grenade launchers and only one hatch centered on the hull.
In the pics 1st is a BMPT-2, 2nd and 3rd are BMPT-72, and the last 2 are BMPT-2s.
Battle tanks are obsolete in modern warfare. Heavily armored all terrain capable coffins with explosives inside.
I believe that yellow BMPT is version 1.
There were only 20 built and 10 are in Ukraine being used near Popasna, under command of the Wagner Group, as are all Orc forces in that salient.
Its an experimental machine in search of a mission, which may be becoming battlefield scrap.
Looks like a wannabe BRadley IFV, so mechanized infantry?
It’s a T-72 with a new turret that has less armor than the old turret did.
This will end well.
BRadley IFV, so mechanized infantry?

T-72 hull with add-on fancy, but poorly designed turret. Meant to protect tanks, but is ill-suited fro the task. Similar looking vehicles from other countries are meant as anti-air assets.
