I'm curious:

Did anyone else NOT get 'stimulus' bucks and see a credit on their taxes?

Did anyone else get denied said credit for 2020 or 2021?

I have never heard of the stimmi crediting tax liability. The idea of the stimmi was immediate stimulus via spending. Not reduction of tax liability X months later.

I think the OP misunderstood something.

My son did not get a stimulus check, then got a $1400 credit when he filed. He was a part time employee at a big box retailer for most of the year.

They are freaking morons. They told me in 2020 i got a stimulus check for $479, which i never got. They then sent me a letter telling me they were sending me a replacement check for $479, which i never got.

They then sent me an overdue notice for the $479 stimulus payment which, wait for it now, i never got.

I was on the phone with them for more than two hours figuring out a problem they created. This year I charged then for 2 hours time at $375 per hour ($750) for tax prep for my time which they wasted.

After I filed my 2021 taxes (and paid the amount due) I received an IRS letter advising me that that I was supposed to receive a 2021 stimulus check...which I had not. Thus far I have not taken any action on it since I do not believe I was due a payment.

I’ve used Turbo Tax for 7+ years.

This year, they were wrong. My taxes said to look for a $4800 refund. I didn’t think that was correct. Well, the IRS sent me a refund amount that I was expecting with a note.

I think something happened with Turbo Tax. Too much dope smoking or purposeful mistakes.

I an an Enrolled Agent. I get this question a lot at work.

If the IRS removed the Recovery Rebate Credit (1040 page 2 line 30) from your 2021 return and you did not get the 3rd stimulus check, the only way to get it is to call IRS Payment Trace at 1-800-919-9835 or mail form 3911.

Sue Turbotax for the additional tax and penalties. They made the error.

Here here.

I used turbo tax. Cut and dry. Government kept 3300.

They just took it. Claimed it was somehow related to the 750 I took in child tax credits.

I got 2x child stimulus checks. $2,800. Turns out all it was, was fast forwarding my 2021 tax return to me. So I was getting my own money, which screwed up my tax return.

Let’s go, Brandon!

If this turns out to be Turbo Tax’s problem/error, there may be other folks in the same boat as you. IF that’s the case, this mess might qualify for a class action lawsuit.

I’m not a lawyer, but you might do some checking on this.

I filed a paper 1040 return this year like I do every year. I have nothing to claim, no dependents, take the standard deduction as a senior citizen. I just rechecked the copy of the 2021 - 1040 form I filled out and sent in, and there is nothing regarding the stimulus checks on it. I mailed both my State and Federal taxes directly from the post office on February 8th, 2022. It’s been 14 weeks, and the “Where’s My Refund?” site cannot give me any information on my return. I haven’t gotten anything from the IRS saying there was an error on my form, and there is no number you can call, or any live person you can talk to, to find out if my form was even received.

I got both Covid checks. According to my CPA, they weren’t considered taxable income. It’s hard to understand, how you could be taxed on untaxable income.

ps

Even though my tax situation is very simple, I never trusted Turbo Tax.

Go to the mat, and get your US House representative involved if you have a case.

The IRS banks on the victim not fighting them.

I'm a very patient man. I'll sit on the phone for 45 minutes waiting for them to pick up.

If they DON'T finally answer you on the phone, then you have an even better case for your Congresscritter.

In my situation which is probably "not normal"... I have two checking accounts. While doing the tax software I checked the box that I did not receive the $1400 stimulus. It wasn't a week later after sending my taxes in that the IRS mailed me a notification statement of the $1400 stimulus payment. (the statement was notifying me that they sent me $1400 a year earlier!). Sure enough I checked my secondary bank statement from a year ago and there it was. The IRS caught my "mistake" on my taxes and sent me a correction to my 1040 and I had to basically pay it back. All of this occurred before April 15th.

I would be very worried if you receive a physical check. The way the postal system is working I could see checks being stolen out of the mail system. But, if you did receive a stimulus the IRS should have sent a statement in February of this year that they sent you one. I cannot see a thief stealing a check and the IRS notification statement that you were sent the stimulus... unless, thinking more sinister a roomie has access to your mail.

The IRS is very efficient. They cashed my payment check as soon as they got it.

I moved between my 2018 tax filing and the stimulus checks going out, so the first check went to my old address and I never received it. On my 2020 tax form, it asked if I had “missed” a check - yes - and did I want to apply that to my taxes due - yes. A couple months later, in July 2021, I actually got a letter from the IRS saying that my first check had “expired” and I should call them with a updated address and they’d send a new check. Well, I figured that they just hadn’t processed applying that amount to my tax debt, but assumed they would figure that out.

I tried calling...that is a joke. IF you can reach a human, they can’t do a damn thing to solve a problem.

So they keep sending me letters telling me I owe $1200, and I keep sending them photocopies of the letter they sent, which specifically says that they may apply the $1200 to a tax debt, and I say YES!!! DO THAT!! but they keep sending me letters saying I owe them $1200.

I have never had any issues with the IRS, but boy does this make me wonder about the competence of our “public servants.”

What that means is the IRS told the Treasury Dept to send you the 1400. As far as they are concerned, it was paid. Double-check your bank account for 3/17/21 and forward to the end of the year. If you are absolutely sure you did not receive it, fill out form 3911 to have them trace the payment.
