I have never heard of the stimmi crediting tax liability. The idea of the stimmi was immediate stimulus via spending. Not reduction of tax liability X months later.

I think the OP misunderstood something.

He took the credit on his taxes because he claimed he did not get the second stimmi check/deposit.

The treasury provides the IRS with a list of checks tied to their SS number. If the treasury says they paid it…good luck proving you didn’t get it.

Nope.

On my 2020 filing, TT asked the question if I received the ‘stimulus’ (I answered No, as I did not).

It credited 1400 against my tax due and no notice was generated from IRS regarding any problems whatsoever for my 2020 federal return.

If you read the comments, others received a credit as well.

I will concede that when doing my 2020 taxes the last thing I expected was to get a credit for stimulus I didn’t need or want. I didn’t know what to expect this year, but the results speak for themselves in this post.
