Ukraine's armed forces released a video on Sunday (May 15) saying it said showed servicemen firing new U.S. M-777 howitzers at the front line in the east of the country. The video showed its soldiers firing an artillery gun. Reuters could not independently verify the video.
The U.S. embassy in Kyiv said on Sunday that Washington has delivered all but one of the 90 artillery pieces they were due to send.
The M-777 howitzer consignment is part of a huge outlay of weapons from Washington to help Ukraine fend off Russia's invasion, which began on Feb. 24.
The M-777 is seen as particularly significant because of its long range and accuracy….

Sweet!
Jimmy Two Times!
Makes you wonder how close that first round was, given the reduction in muzzle velocity while it ran three feet back to dig the trails in.
Great, now you have to re-tram the gun.
Russian artillery is outranged
Must mean we aren't supplying those puppies with the guns. Shame - it makes things faster and more precise.
What happens when Ukraine doesn’t have enough trained soldiers to fire the howitzers?
Supply the guns and training will appear
“Ukraine forces use new American Ukraine forces use new American howitzers on Russian positionss on Russian positions”
Did Kamala write the headline?
“Supply the guns and training will appear”
Magical thinking.
In reality, remember this is Ukraine, supply the guns and some will be sold on the black market and others will be involved in friendly fire accidents.
Of course, the Democrats and their media will ignore these issues and, if something can’t be ignored, will blame Putin and Russians in general.
Now, why don’t we send some diplomats to Ukraine and Russia to work out a deal for a cease-fire?
The U.S. government has that power and it would save us from paying billions to Ukraine and worse.
It would be fine if they were using the Excaliber munition.
It is a smart munition which can steer to the target. It has an accuracy of 4 meters at 22 miles.
Only one or two rounds are needed to take out an tank or an artillery piece.
Linda Graham will volunteer.
Ukraine has quite a lot of trained gunners, just not on this particular system. IIRC it had at least 30 artillery battalions prewar, to which you can add a bunch of reservists.
And also IIRC Ukraine has been sending men abroad to train, probably these are serving artillerymen for conversion training.
As for negotiations, thats going to happen when both sides are ready and not before. None of that works otherwise. Russia still seems to have hopes of creating favorable facts on the ground, and now so also does Ukraine. Maybe in another month.
IIRC the guns came with a training package as well as ammo, prime movers, etc.
Post #1 is a GIF from Iraq or Afghanistan....
Is this a sincere-but-naïve question? A valid request for actual information?
Or is this a malign, provocative question, designed to sow despair and misinformation through insinuation?
I'm guessing the latter, in which case I would respond with:
"Then the Ukrainians will wring their hands and lose all hope and surrender!"
However, if it was the former, then:
"Train more soldiers and continue kicking Russian *ss!"
Regards,
I thought as much.
The USA used the Excalibur munitions in Afghanistan.
They work very well. They are very effective on targets such as tanks, self propelled artillery, and towed artillery.
I found the Russian videos of self propelled artillery, digging into positions, to be indicative of digging their own graves.
Very difficult to hide that from satellite surveillance and/or drones. You have to keep moving and hiding to survive in this war.
The M777 artillery is pretty good to shoot and scoot.
Fixed positions are death traps when the opposition is armed with smart munitions.
The "long out the barrel (tube, to artillerymen)" is not true; I conducted a number of firing tests over the years that demonstrated that muzzle velocity is strongly affected by recoil movement. I even found that a mortar fired from the back of a Light Armored Vehicle had different muzzle velocities for each angle away from the long axis of the vehicle because of suspension deflection/amount of air in the tires!
Advances in first-round precision can even make good old (and cheaper) HE fuze Quick one-shot wonders (("15 mile snipers") using advanced aiming and fire control and very uniform muzzle velocities.
Got over 40 years in artillery!
