Harley-Davidson spin-out electric motorcycle brand Livewire has revealed the S2 Del Mar as its second model, with a very limited edition selling out in a matter of minutes. The full production version will follow for a tempting $15k price tag.
Harley-Davidson's Project Livewire electric motorcycle plans were first revealed way back in 2014, but it took another four years for the launch of a production-ready machine and almost another year before the ~US$30k ride went on sale.
The Livewire got a bit of a rebrand and a much lower price tag in mid-2021. The price of entry to the Livewire e-moto universe has been lowered yet again for the company's second model, the S2 Del Mar.
The Launch Edition has been limited to a production run of just 100 bikes, and availability was very short-lived indeed. It will come with exclusive graphics and paint, and will be available in "Jasper Gray or Comet Indigo."
The new electric motorcycle debuts Livewire's new scalable and modular ARROW architecture, where the proprietary battery, motor, charging and control systems make up much of the actual chassis structure.

You’re right, that is crazy. Leather and armor saved my life once.
Actually all that noise that motorcycles make has probably saved a lot of lives over the years.
Many times I have been alerted to motorcycles being near me by the noise they make. I see a lot more accidents happening if motorcycles gain the ability to silently get into the blind spots of other vehicles on the road.
Just...NO.
He/she probably wouldn't like the sound of a low pass P 51 either.
Obviously not anybody who ever rode a motorcycle before.
I have the Yamaha RX-1 at my warehouse, and when I was in Japan visited the Yamaha office/museum. Amazing history: they were not making enough money to make pianos after the war, so they started making bikes. A nice lady spoke to us in so-so English and showed us around the place..
Like all these Electric
Rides, the Battery replacement is the Deal.
I need to see ‘D’ cells!
.
Seriously, Proprietary
Batteries are a TRAP.
My daily commute was 15 miles round trip down Clairemont Drive/Genesee in San Diego. One charge could go all week.
do it once in your life. Bucket list. You won’t regret it. EXCEPT for the damn parking. One thing I learned is I will bring a mobile home or equivalent.
Electric harleys= More dead riders... Loud pipes save lives.
Due to health problems, I can’t do it now at 72, But a travel trailer or motorhome is surely the way to go. Do they have hook-ups there?
Last time I was there. Yeah, they have a huge RV parking lot 10 times the the size of an MLB stadium and you pay less as told to me from someone who goes there every year. Forget the hotels, they are booked 2 years in advance, deposits down.
Without that and the vibrations at low speed, it isn’t a Harley. It’s like calling a modern car a “muscle car” even though everybody knows those stopped being built in the 70s so stop pretending.
Just an FYI but I read that if the plane was a significant fighter plane, the number will not be reused. So according to that you will never se a F-51 in your lifetime.
I wouldn’t stay at any local ‘hotel’ — too many bed bugs & lice — I’d bring an RV.
I think they actually do engineering work so that they make that sound. My late brother could imitate it pretty well. Let's see, maybe: put-put-put-put-putty-put, put-put-put-put-putty-put, put-put-put-put-putty-put ...
Motorists don't see bikers so loud pipes help them hear them.
“It’s like calling a modern car a “muscle car” “
Correct. I think Harley is going after a non-classic-Harley market. Making the bike is fine but they shouldn’t have put the “Harley” name on it.
I’m not a rider and I have nothing against Harleys and people who ride them, or any other bike. It ain’t a Harley if it doesn’t sound like one!
I’ve worked with a lot of Harley people over the years. Great people.
That would be awesome!
