Thankfully, it will still be well over 3.5 million miles away, so there’s nothing to panic about.
Experts believe the asteroid is somewhere between 240 and 535 yards wide.
At the maximum possible length, that would make it bigger than the Empire State Building, the Shard and the Eiffel Tower.
It would dwarf the Statue of Liberty too.
The space rock — officially known as 388945 (2008 TZ3) — is expected to make its closest approach on Sunday, May 15.
Last time it paid a visit was in May 2020.
Back then it came even closer, at 1.7 million miles away.
It routinely gives Earth a wave about every two years...
The next time it’ll come anywhere near as close as this weekend won’t be until May 2163.

Close approach = totally miss
Why do I find myself rooting for the asteroid?
George Carlin on the term “near miss”.
Six days?
Not enough time for a government program to stop it.
Yeah, 7X farther away than the moon.
The Greta stare would do the job. How close do we need to get her?
I'm enough of a gentleman to try to get her back afterwards, but if the planet is in peril, that becomes secondary.
Marion Barry once hit a rock in DC.
I loved that show at the time. One of the obvious questions was how they managed to get to orbit without running out of fuel, since their ship just seemed to climb at a slow, steady speed instead of accelerating to very high speed like actual rockets do.
A rock that huge would hurt and kill people far beyond DC. Be careful what you wish for.
I was in West Virginia last fall when I heard a huge explosion that seemed to have occurred on the other side of the mountain west of my cabin. I thought, my gosh, what are they working on there? Next day at a meeting everyone was talking about the meteor that was reported to have hit, and everyone there the day before had heard it and been surprised.
Ker-rash! :^) Glad it hit on the other side of the mountain!
It sounded like it was a mile or two away, but I think it was a lot farther. I was about 5 or 6 miles west of Baker, WV. Do you have any idea where this strike actually was? I did not recognize the location reported last September, around the 20th.
Asteroid Yesterday. Asteroid Tomorrow but never Asteroid Today.
