Why Isn't Tucker Carlson Taking Rush Limbaugh's Former Radio Slot?
Me | 5/3/2022 | By Laz A. Mataz

Posted on 05/03/2022 11:24:43 AM PDT by Lazamataz

Lately, I've become hooked on Tucker Carlson's segments. I'm watching (actually, listening) on a regular basis.

Losing Rush Limbaugh was a body-blow for me. I miss the man; I miss his takes on thing; I miss his wit and his humor.

I've listened to many of the would-be replacements, and none of them could be even ten percent of the entertainer and conservative touchstone that Rush was.

Today, it occurred to me: Tucker Carlson could do the job. Oh, I grant you, Tucker would never be quite as good as Rush.... but he would be close, as close as anyone could be.

Tucker is insightful, and he has a good sense of humor. He is serving now as the conservative opinion-maker on Fox. I'd like Tucker to consider radio. I'd like him to try his hand at taking Rush Limbaugh's slot.

I have only one complaint about Tucker... his laugh sometimes seems forced and fake. Other than that, the man is completely capable of carrying on Rush Limbaugh's legacy.

Rush does things on the fly, legitimate thinker. Tucker probably has a lot of his words written for him

Not his company. And the company “owns” (gets paid to put content in) the slot.

People change companies all the time. Contracts come up for renewel; people move on to new things.

This might be a legit point. While I don't think Tucker has his words written FOR him, I do think he has his words written BY him.

But, Rush did this too. He had his Top Of The Hour monologues. If you split Tucker's 25 minutes up, Tucker could cover all those monologue times... the real key would be if he could handle callers.

Rush always had horrible fill-in hosts.

Tucker points out the absurdity and destruction done by the left however he lacks Rush’s charm and wit. Just not the same.

Absolutely. Not the same. Not the same level of charm and wit.

However, Tucker has maybe 75% of that same level.... and that, to my mind, is as close or closer than anyone else.

Neither could Rush, which was why there was so many commercials. He squeezed 40 minutes of commentary into 3 hours

Sure. But in his situation why bother with that. Radio is dying, no reason to leave a high profile high paid contract he’s got to still work for somebody, and in an industry that might not last. If he’s going to move on to something better to build his brand now and move on to something he owns. If he really wants to hit radio build a company, compete with Rush’s company, defeat it. Nothing’s more Rush Limbaugh than straight up capitalism.

The slot is already filled by Bongino.

Not in my listening area.

Hi guy.

Mark Steyn declined the show.

I don’t know.

Difficult to follow a legend.

For example, when you meet your expiration date, there will never be another Laz.

Maybe he respects Limbaugh too much.

Nothing says 'respect' quite as much as carrying the torch forward (as best as you can).

It’s very likely that TV in cars already does cause auto accidents.
In MOST states, having a display within view of the driver that shows video while the vehicle is in motion is illegal.
IOW, this is legal in certain states, at least as recently as in year 2020.

I’d listen to Tucker if he had a radio show. But I don’t think he’s as good as Michael Berry out of Houston, TX.

Michael knows how to mix the serious, the humour, and great guests. And he’s definitely a conservative. He doesn’t have a co-host. His call screener will use a desk bell or (rarely) sound effect to reinforce or counter what Michael is saying. I know most probably folks haven’t even heard of Michael Berry. But I wish everyone could.

I like Clay and Buck. LIKE. But Buck falls into the trap I hear in a lot of shows with an active co-host: he thinks he has to have the last word and will talk over his co-host to beat him to the point or the punchline. It is not fun to listen to.

Maybe it comed down to experience. Michael has it and broadcasts in way no else I listen to does. It’s a refreshing change from all those mentioned and from Savage, Levin, Pags, Hannity, Kilmead, Crowder, and some others.

Now I understand why Rush never had a co-host. It wasn’t necessary and potentially distracting. He’d just share the thoughts of his staff as it applied.

Because he doesn’t need to tag on to someone else’s legacy. He has his own thing going on.

I'm sure you are right.

But it is another venue and a solid vector to reach the masses. Tucker might get 10 times his audience. Rush was HUGE. Tucker is less so, at least right now.

And Tucker could also approach it less like tagging on to a legacy, and more like extending his own legacy.

It’s a step down in pay. It’s a step down in terms of audience Total Available Market TAM.

I use to occasionally watched Rush’s TV show and enjoyed it very much. The reason I say “occasionally watched” was that the stationed that aired it in Washington, DC, put it on at 2 am.

Hard to build an audience when the leftist TV programmers schedule your show to be on when most people are asleep.

Thus, to me, the leftists conspired to make him fail. But it was on for 3 or 4 years.

I dunno, I thought Rush was KILLING it financially!

Perhaps in terms of TAM you are correct. I don't know much about such things.

It would be smart for Tucker to host a radio show at some point to see how he does. Perhaps Hannity? But, Rush can never be replaced. It’s like replacing Baby Ruth. Besides, as a believer Rush’s gift was on loan from God.

Agree on all you wrote.
