Why Isn't Tucker Carlson Taking Rush Limbaugh's Former Radio Slot?
Me | 5/3/2022 | By Laz A. Mataz

Posted on 05/03/2022 11:24:43 AM PDT by Lazamataz

Lately, I've become hooked on Tucker Carlson's segments. I'm watching (actually, listening) on a regular basis.

Losing Rush Limbaugh was a body-blow for me. I miss the man; I miss his takes on thing; I miss his wit and his humor.

I've listened to many of the would-be replacements, and none of them could be even ten percent of the entertainer and conservative touchstone that Rush was.

Today, it occurred to me: Tucker Carlson could do the job. Oh, I grant you, Tucker would never be quite as good as Rush.... but he would be close, as close as anyone could be.

Tucker is insightful, and he has a good sense of humor. He is serving now as the conservative opinion-maker on Fox. I'd like Tucker to consider radio. I'd like him to try his hand at taking Rush Limbaugh's slot.

I have only one complaint about Tucker... his laugh sometimes seems forced and fake. Other than that, the man is completely capable of carrying on Rush Limbaugh's legacy.

Basically I chalked it up to... Rush was fat. He had the looks for radio. Fantastic voice, great intellect.

Only skinny people look good on TV.

I agree, he would be a good replacement for Rush. With that being said, he is under contract with Fox for his 8-9 pm time slot which I suspect involves a lot of telepromter.

I don't think he would be capable of also doing radio from noon till 3 p.m. with all the prep needed to maintain three hours of dialogue.

I'm relegated to listening to Dan Bongino in that time slot here in S.E. Michigan but in all honesty, he is not a radio type analyst but rather a radio ranter......I don't think his contract with WJR will extend beyond his current contract.

My only alternative is Patriot radio which hosts Dennis Pager from noon till 2 p.m. and quite frankly, while I enjoy all of his political and Christian analysis, he puts me to sleep.

Fortunately, Charlie Kirk comes on the Patriot at the 2 o'clock hour.

Half the fun of Tucker is his “WTF-look” when he’s listening to a progressive speak. It cracks me up every time I see it and it’s a small dimension of his work would be lost on radio.

Bull... His show was awesome. He just hated doing it.

And, it was give THE WORST time slots.... literally, 2 am.. in a time before DVR.

I bought my first VCR recorder to watch Rush on Pat Sajack's show. The VCR was so primitive, you had to program it be setting a gazillion tiny dip-switches on the face of it.

We really need Rush these days.

He probably had a great time as Rush’s sub but would have a very different show if he had his way.
***It would make sense to hand the slot to Rush’s brother David Limbaugh. He doesn’t have to fill the 3 hours himself, he would continually parade guest hosts, speakers, and panels. Rush wasn’t all that good at it. That has been Joe Rogan’s approach, let the speakers have their say. It would, of course, end up being a completely different program than Rush’s but David could insert the Limbaugh viewpoint wherever he wanted.

I miss Rush everyday.....there will ALWAYS be a gigantic hole at the noon hour. Just when things seem to be looking hopeless, Rush would be there to right the ship....in fantastic, irreplaceable fashion!!! But I agree, Tucker may be the only one capable of coming close....he is, in a word, brilliant, as well!!

Tucker has enough to do with his prime time show and the extras he does for that thing he does now in the mornings.

Charlie Kirk should take his spot. I am absolutely impressed wth this guy. And I have listened to over 50000 hours of radio in my life. I have heard all the greats from the 90s-present, and most of the ones before them. Charlie Kirk has IT. The only thing against him, in my opinion, is he thinks Replacement Theory is racist. That's the only real knock on him from me.

Rush tried TV and got his rear end handed to him.

He was on for 4 or 5 years, 1992-1996, and 'Limbaugh terminated the show in 1996 after deciding the half-hour format, and its burial at the wee hours of the night was no longer an effective medium.'

He was on a lot longer than many/most network shows.

I’ve wondered the same thing. The fact that lefties cannot usually sustain attention long enough to listen to a radio program, and need visual stimulus to pay attention at all, should work in his favor. I’m sure Rush made a great deal more money and had more freedom that whatever FoxNews is paying Tucker.

I was a Rush-baby (from his very first syndicated show in 1988) and took it hard when he passed. His style, wit, humor and all-around good-natured way of doing his show will never be replaced. I have come to the point of acceptance in this and expect NO ONE to replace him. Sure, there are other decent conservative voices out there but none on his level, nor will there ever be.

If you split Tucker's 25 minutes up, Tucker could cover all those monologue times... the real key would be if he could handle callers.

And move those who disagree to the front of the line. Rush did that, and either educated them or made them look silly.

Rush’s slot is already occupied, by a pair of guys selected and blessed by Rush’s widow. They have his theme song, his bumper music, everthang! I assume Katherine holds the contracts for the radio broadcasts, and the two blest guys work for her and are well paid to fill the time slot with reasonably conservative sound waves. Meanwhile she has a steady income of annual Million$. I almost never tune in. It ain’t Rush. The two guys are ever-so-cautious not to EVER push the envelope. I’m sure Ms. Katherine has made them well aware of what the limits are.
