Why Isn't Tucker Carlson Taking Rush Limbaugh's Former Radio Slot?
Me | 5/3/2022 | By Laz A. Mataz

Posted on 05/03/2022 11:24:43 AM PDT by Lazamataz

Lately, I've become hooked on Tucker Carlson's segments. I'm watching (actually, listening) on a regular basis.

Losing Rush Limbaugh was a body-blow for me. I miss the man; I miss his takes on thing; I miss his wit and his humor.

I've listened to many of the would-be replacements, and none of them could be even ten percent of the entertainer and conservative touchstone that Rush was.

Today, it occurred to me: Tucker Carlson could do the job. Oh, I grant you, Tucker would never be quite as good as Rush.... but he would be close, as close as anyone could be.

Tucker is insightful, and he has a good sense of humor. He is serving now as the conservative opinion-maker on Fox. I'd like Tucker to consider radio. I'd like him to try his hand at taking Rush Limbaugh's slot.

I have only one complaint about Tucker... his laugh sometimes seems forced and fake. Other than that, the man is completely capable of carrying on Rush Limbaugh's legacy.

Reading something and not sounding like you are reading is a gift. Tucker is pretty good.

I had a guy in the radio business tell me that this is THE single defining characteristic of a great radio host.

I’ll throw three names out there of radio personalities who set themselves above all the rest in this regard over the years:

1. Rush Limbaugh
2. Don Imus
3. Curtis Sliwa

They really had nothing in common in terms of their politics or their radio content, but they were exceptionally good in one area that is highly prized in the radio business: They kept their audiences engaged and entertained even when they were reading advertising spots on the air.

I had heard that Imus even got to the point where he was basically forced into retirement over this. As he got older he wanted to scale back his broadcast schedule and do long stretches of his show on tape delay, but advertisers who were paying top dollar for slots on his show were including a stipulation in their contracts that he had to read their ads live on the air.

I got a whole lotta audio options in my car. Generally I’m on the USB. My radio has never been tuned to a station.

1) He's already busy enough.

2) Better you ask why you don't see more of him than complain about seeing so much of him.

Please let him do it and get rid of Erik Erickson in Atlanta. Please. Pretty please.

I doubt Tucker has the time to do a radio show.

Not only does he do his prime time show weekdays, he also does an hour long show for Fox Nation.

He has to have some time to spend with this family.

Tucker’s busy enough.

Besides his 8pm cable slot, “Tucker Carlson Tonight”, he also hosts two shows on Fox’s streaming service

https://tuckercarlson.com/

Tucker Carlson hosts FOX News Channel’s flagship primetime cable news program, Tucker Carlson Tonight (weekdays 8PM/ET).

Carlson and his team recently launched the two flagship programs on the network’s streaming service, Fox Nation, in 2021.

Tucker Carlson Originals is an in-depth documentary series. Tucker Carlson Today is an in-depth interview program featuring a single in-studio guest for nearly an hour. Both programs are heading into their second season and available to stream on FOXNation.com

Rush was a workaholic genius with a deep understanding of radio and a great sense of humor. We desperately need a replacement for Rush, but AFAIK none exists. No one I have heard even comes close.

Tucker could not fill his shoes, and there is no reason for him to try. He is already where he belongs. On television.

I’d rather have Kilmeade.

I’ve never listened to talk radio except for Rush on occasion, but I heard a bit of Chris Plante the other day and was impressed.

Tucker’s more in his element doing what he’s doing, and Fox seems highly supportive, especially given the headwinds he’s faced.

And face it, talk radio is dying. The FCC is chomping at the bit to eliminate analog AM radio and if/when that happens it will be curtains for any format where listeners won’t go out and buy a new radio. May not happen but it’s hard to paint a rosy future picture for anything but non-commercial narrowcasting on AM.

He'd certainly be better than the guys there now.Assuming Rush's widow owns the rights to those three hours she'd be wise to look to Tucker,Hannity,Mark Stein...and perhaps even Ann Coulter.

Rush tried TV and got his rear end handed to him

Bull... His show was awesome. He just hated doing it.

And, it was give THE WORST time slots.... literally, 2 am.. in a time before DVR.

Never be the 1st to follow a legend. Period.

Tucker apparently has the patience to deal with TV. Rush did not.

Laura did 3 hrs. radio daily and TV but the schedule is brutal. Hannity does it albeit with a more compatible schedule. Kilmeade also with an even friendlier schedule (back to back)

I would also imagine Katherine & Co considered and perhaps asked Tucker about the slot.

There can never ever be another Rush. We lucked out knowing him.

I was fortunate to live on Earth at same time as Reagan and Rush. I made a list of others...Billy Graham is one. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There were others but can’t remember.

He had low ratings, that’s why. He had the looks for radio. Tucker has some of the highest ratings on TV. Radio would be a step down for him.
