Pure nonsense. First question; what are the strategic and operational objectives for such a move? Second, how will the “genius” know when he has achieved this vague and undefinable objective? What is the vision of the end state? Does this apply to Asia as well as Eastern Europe? Are you speaking only militarily?

Hasn’t the Ukraine killed all the Russian generals? Why isn’t it over yet?

Putin will be weakened until he has no alternative to a nuclear strike against America. Brandon is destroying our country, inside and out.

Simple, objective is reached when Russian troops retreat to pre-invasion borders. End state is Russia learns to stop invading other countries and live inside its border.

Russia put a lot of resources in play for Ukraine. Financially, it was a good gamble because of the resources in Ukraine. The problem, honestly, is that Russia went to the well and used the same plans again. They became predictable, not just in objectives, but in tactics. Historically, predictable tactics on the battlefield make it much easier for combatant.

Russia needs to rethink the objectives and tactics. They need to ask, since the cost has gone up, “Is it worth it”.

Will nuke Europe to end it all.

There will be a few coming our way as well.

If Russia goes down in flames, Putin will bring the rest of us along for the ride.

Don't forget, we've got a "master diplomat" in the White House.

How many phases are there?

So in other words it’s the woman’s fault for getting raped, her skirt was so short the rapist had no alternative...

When the NVA, fully backed by the USSR, fought the USA to a standstill in Vietnam, did that leave America no choice but to lob nukes? What a BS analysis.

I’m not saying putin *won’t* throw nukes, but it will be 100% his own decision. He has plenty of alternatives.

Exactly. It is one thing for us FReepers to try to war-game this fight, but the truth — as it usually is — is much more simple. Think: Occam’s Razor.

Sure thing - but did that setback give the USA “no alternative” than to nuke the USSR? That was the point I was making

I am no fan of Austin. I think he is a pompous ass.

That said, I would imagine his intelligence on these matter would be better than anything we are seeing in the media on either side.

Now…would he share the unvarnished truth? No.

That said, you have to read these stories and try to glean the meager truths that lie within.

Dismissing this stuff out of hand, in its entirety, is just stupid.

Putin is in the same spot Hitler was in 1942. He cannot back down as it’d be over for him as it would have been for Hitler.

IMHO our biggest strategic error was not crossing the DMZ. It’s like trying to win a football game and never crossing the 50.

I will just say poor word choice. To bring this war to a close, both sides need to be willing to negotiate. Making statements that can easily be construed as indicating that US policy is to dismember Russia is a propaganda gift to Putin.

How do you indicate that the US desires Russia to not attempt to dictate internal and foreign policy of its neighbors; and believes that a Russia that is at prosperous, and strong enough to keep acquisitive neighbors away is in the US interest?
