Deep diving into the Hummer EV; a vehicle I’m not sure I’ve ever had such conflicting thoughts about. On one hand, it’s a brilliant vehicle, wildly capable off-road, and genuinely feels like it has the ability to embarrass both the Ford Raptor and Ram TRX in any scenario, but on the other hand, it appeared on the cover of Time Magazine with a quote about “engineering a greener future.”
There are three 250 kW electric motors, which combined give you 1,000 horsepower and 1200 lb-ft of torque. So despite weighing over 9,000 lbs, GM claims it’ll reach 60 miles per hour in just 3 seconds. Now, allowing those three electric motors to provide an absurd launch is a massive battery pack; at over 2900 lbs, the battery pack alone weighs more than an entire Subaru BRZ. This battery has 205 kWh of energy available to use.
It’s not a gimmick, it’s really quick, and it’s really capable off-road. Plain and simple, it’s very impressive to drive. But it also feels like a colossal waste of resources, and considering it weighs nearly as much as all three of cars that I own combined, I sincerely hope I never meet one in a collision. But I like it. I mean, I do. Dang. Watch the video for all the details.I Hate That I Love The Hummer EV | April 15, 2022 | Engineering Explained

The electric emissions per kWh charged are based on the average US electrical grid. Some states will be better/worse. Renewable charging (ie. solar) will dramatically improve this number.
The grid gets cleaner every year.
Most Hummer EVs will be sold where the grid is cleaner like the West Coast and Texas.
Less will be sold in places where the grid is dirtiest like Indiana and West Virginia.
He has an entire youtube playlist demonstrating his knowledge of engineering. Including what a kWh is and what a BTU is.
That is more credible than random guy on internet.
Not to mention the fact that the plan is for most folks to charge their EVs at night, when solar is a no-go.
If everyone charges one vehicle a night in your neighborhood, your neighborhood transformers are not going to survive very long. They are not sized to be running at near or full capacity 24/7, they were sized with the expectation that at night, the neighborhood power demand would be very low, the night is generally cooler too, and the transformer could cool down somewhat before the daytime peak power usage begins.
Well put.
Everyone can light candles around their solar panels. Lots and lots of candles. Likely enormous benefits to yield at least 12 seconds of great running time.
What is there to not love about a vehicle with a 50 mile range in winter?
What?! No reactive armor?!
Why would anyone need this?
Regards,
Well, Hummers are based on warfare
Then they'll need to pay 3 times more in road taxes.
Think about it another way (also do it because libtards only want people thinking one way, the libtard hive mind way):
IF you are limited to only one source of energy for all your living/appliances/fuel/temperature control/info/payments/communication,
when that source goes down, and it will go down, how do you implement any plan b to do anything?
Its a massive control feature over a person.
It will be especially fun when everyone attempts to cook and heat their homes with cities banning natural gas and propane hook ups.
Whale oil lamps. Whales are renewable.
Enjoy the mortgage payment that comes with it.
Look at some serious off road activities like Moab, Rubicon trail, etc. Those Jeeps and FJs all have spare gas cans strapped to their racks for one purpose only...in case they need to be recharged. IMHO, being, "really capable off-road," means sustaining a couple days on the trails with what you got. Will this sustain its charge long enough to do that? It would be bad enough to lose your charge sitting in a traffic jam on a cold day in the city. I can't imagine losing it in a serious trail ride miles from civilization.
