I've never read the Bible. Hardly ever went to church so I have a problem with this. I didn't think anyone could make Sal Mineo walk in just a few minutes. Make the blind man see and bring Lazarus back to life? Come on. A thief steals a coat and Jesus tells the victim to offer more. Whatever happened to thou shall not steal?
Here's what I'm getting at. Too many people want nothing more than to be led by a messiah. Walk on water and I'll follow you too. Doesn't mean I have to believe someone who claimed it happened.
I remember when they used to show it on network TV back in the 1970’s during Easter.
I watched it....
.....and personally would still recommend Jesus of Nazareth
....
“Now if there was just more ‘proof’.”
Its like the “gift” of salvation. It isn’t “given” to you. It can’t be “earned” by you.
Its a “gift”. Like any gift, first you must “accept” it.
Jesus knocks on your door, but YOU have to open it.
Its not “proof” first, belief second. Just the opposite.
Belief/Trust FIRST.
Jesus isn’t going to “BUY” you with “proof”. You must humble yourself before God, repent of your sins, and ask Jesus to forgive you.
Reading/learning about Jesus is commendable and advised. It will help you “understand”, but if it is “proof” FIRST you are looking/waiting for, you won’t find it.
It’s very well done and will bring you to tears more often than not. That said it’s well over 90 percent plus non biblical speculation. It aims to do a lot of fill in background of the culture and the lives of the disciples and others who were around Jesus. Some of it is jarring but I would say for the most part it fits very well with the biblical narrative.
*later I was at a restaurant when, for some unknown reason, I decided to taste the guacamole.
It was the right time and at that moment I fell in love with avocados and it’s been a fairytale love story ever since.*
You may be on to something the others are not. I’m only waiting to be convinced. It’s still open. Some men don’t know they’re queer until they’ve started a family.
Sounds like your mind is made up. So what’s the point of your post?
Sympathy??
150,000 people die every day. I’ll wager 98% if them end up in hell.
If that doesn’t scare you, I promise you that one day you will be terrified. And it’s forever. If you wish to join the billions of fools who failed to hit the mark before you that is your choice.
Psalm 14:1
The fool says in his heart there is no God. They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who do good.
I came to the saving grace of Jesus Christ by reading the bible, cover to cover.
While reading near the end, my wife asked me if I believed what I read. I answered, “I do believe.”
THAT is the moment I was saved.
Romans 10:9 NIV
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
I did so.
The Word Brings Salvation
…8But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved.…
Berean Study Bible
God’s Wrath Against Sinful Humanity
Romans 1:18-20 NIV
18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
[[The young ruler who talked to Jesus wanted something to DO to save himself, so Jesus gave him something impossible to do.]]
Exactly, and the reason it was impossible for this young man was because he trusted in his riches- Jesus knew his heart- and knew the man wouldn’t give all- The man claimed he was ‘good’, but Jesus knew he wasn’t truly and perfectly good- and pointed it out dramatically by telling him he must sell everything and give to the poor if he is going to claim to be fully good
“This verse, like others in the passage, is routinely torn from its context and abused by critics and well-meaning Christians alike. This is not a blanket command given to all believers. Nor is it even implying that shedding wealth is, itself, a necessary or pious thing. This is a specific remark given to a specific person, and for a specific reason. That reason was set up by everything which came before this part of the conversation....
The purpose of this comment is to expose the blindness of this wealthy young man, and his ultimate lack of sincerity. The man believed—or wanted to believe—that he had already loved his neighbor as himself. Jesus showed that was not true because the man still had great wealth, and his neighbors were still poor. The young man was not perfectly good, after all.”

okay, sorry.
Well said!
My pastor put it bluntly at the service yesterday. Has any other historical occurrence ever convinced so many people to believe and had the staying power of 2000 years, like it happened yesterday? Has any book been around 2000 years and still published today? The Bible has given me so much joy, sadness, elation, and knowledge I read it every day for inspiration.
I will add this to the comments you have already received. A problem I had with it is that it is very low budget. This sometimes took me out of the show. The Romans wear chrome-plated armor that looks like it was just manufactured. It isn't properly aged and antiqued because it is probably on loan from a re-enactor who wanted it back pristine. There is a scene in which Jesus is supposed to be speaking to "a crowd". He asks Simon if he can speak from his boat to better address the crowd. I don't remember how many people there were, but I seem to remember it being about 9 or 10 people at the most. He was standing right with them and could easily have addressed them without going into the boat.
Later in the same scene is a famous moment in which Jesus has Simon cast his net again and, due to a miracle from Jesus, Simon and the other fishermen pull the net back in laden with fish (this scene is done much better in Jesus of Nazareth). However, the boat has scarcely left the beach. They are not in water deep enough for fish to swim or for Simon to have cast his net. Maybe they thought no one would notice? I get that they are hampered by the budget (the series is produced with money raised from crowdfunding), but scenes like that call too much attention to the low budget.
My wife and I watched 5 or 6 episodes before stalling out on it. It seems they drag out a plot (like Simon not being able to pay his taxes) for more episodes than needed, and Simon and his wife seem to have the same argument over and over. We'll probably resume it at some time. I read that for the second season they were allowed to film on an existing biblical village set that the Mormons use; so maybe the production values are better going forward.
Your post reads like you've already gotten a good head-start.

Can you cite counter-examples? I.e., people who devoutly believed and prayed and yet were not cured?
I would expect that there are quite a few such cases.
Further, can you cite examples of people belonging to other confessions (Buddhist, Hindu, etc.) who prayed to their deity and were miraculously healed?
Again: I would expect that there are quite a few such cases.
What does that tell us?
Regards,
Yes, there are other "revealed faiths" with various "holy scriptures" purporting to describe alleged historical occurrences that predate the events described in the New Testament.
And yes, there are also other "holy texts" far older than the Christian Bible that are still published today: E.g., Vedas, the Upanishads, the Purānas, the Mahābhārata, the Rāmāyana, and the Āgamas.
To put it bluntly: Only an ignoramus would assert otherwise.
Regards,
My wife and I really enjoy The Chosen.
It seems to be pretty Biblical but there are differences in the time lines which I suppose is to further the plot. The first miracle Jesus performs is casting the demons out of Mary Magdeline in the movie.
But -that sets up a very public event and gets the Roman soldiers and the priests involved in the story right away.
Not sure if Jesus turning water into wine at a private event would have been able to cause as big of a ruckus to create a plot filled with tension, good and evil, etc.
Why post your opinion then?
If you don’t believe, have a nice day.
Nope.
It is shallow.
Not sure how correct Norm MacDonald is on some of his theology, but the following is where he tells some comedian about how his Bible joke “...isn’t brave it all. I think if you are going to take on an entire religion, you should know what the hell you are talking about.”

Below is Norm talking with Larry King and others (Norm uses the F word a lot).
“I find it hard to have a discussion with an atheist about God. You ever notice how all they want to talk about is God? But according to them, He doesn’t exist. I suppose their minds are greater than mine, but I would have a hard time talking about something that doesn’t even exist.”
