Couple keeps COVID-19 at bay for over 2 years, then they went on a cruise

PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. – A South Florida couple is back home from a cruise vacation and they are issuing a warning. They said they were shocked when they found themselves in the middle of a COVID-19 outbreak.

Still, there is no official word from Celebrity Cruise Lines, which is why the couple wanted to share their story with Local 10 News.

They started requiring testing of everyone back in August

“The more I learned about the history, I was thinking that it could be a shore side attraction, kind of like the Queen Mary [a retired ocean liner moored at Long Beach that’s now a popular tourist attraction],” he explains. “I’d like to make a museum out of it and let people do tours [of the ship].” He estimates that it would cost around $3 million to transform the vessel into a shoreside attraction."

Why not make it travel-worthy and run it up and down the Mississippi and Ohio? Or the Intracoastal? If he did it right, he could flip it to American Cruise.

It’s sad how they moved the couple from a balcony suite to a quarantine room.

That does suck. I wasn’t really a cruise-type before, but this gamble would make it not at all worthwhile.

See they arent likely to get the Wu Hu Flu because they are jabbed the CDC said so ...

No vaccines are 100% effective.

On a good day with someone who probably had natural immunity the current “vaccines” might give them 5% to 10% additional protection against the latest variations after 2 months... And that is probably a stretch because there is a lot of evidence that the vaccines are screwing up people's immune systems. The only people I know who have tested positive for Omicron in the last two months have been “fully vaccinated”. So sorry Dugaway, these are not what was once defined as a “vaccine”.

I was on the celebrity Apex cruise ship March 26, I had no issues. I did not hear of any Covid outbreaks on the ship. From the cruise I went to the final four in New Orleans. Huge crowds. 70,000+ in the Superdome Saturday and Monday night. I guess I was lucky as I did not catch Covid.
The cruise and the final four were not places with masks. I had no issues.

You may be more likely to contract it if you are jabbed, if it has been some time since your jab

That’s because you are thinking of it as a destination instead of a floating hotel that takes to you several destinations in one trip.

You are crammed into a building with 1000’s of others every time you stay at a large hotel. But you don’t stay at the hotel, you sleep there. The same is true with most cruises. You sleep on the boat, and during the night the boat travels to another location. You get up and to visit this new place, and then go back to your floating hotel room. Then you wake up the next day in a different place and repeat the process.

The hotel in this case is nice and has a couple of nice restaurants you can dine at and even some entertainment and pools. Not that much different than a regular nice hotel.

Wrong. We're expected to be tested BEFORE getting on the ship now, and if you're traveling internationally, you're also expected to test getting off the ship and prior to getting onto an airplane to go home.

Also, have to buy two special, tamper proof kits ahead of time and put yourself on video taking the test within 24 hours of boarding the ship, and test negative.

I cannot tell you how much of a pain in the ass it is to finally being able to take the cruise to Alaska and then onto Denali -- I'd booked in 2019 for 2020. Here I am, two years later than anticipated and STILL having to go through all this!

FWIW, "fully vaccinated" according to NCL -- for me -- means I had one J&J shot. No "boosters" or any of that crap required.

I had the CHINA VIRUS in 2020. Tested positive for the antibodies in 2021 and had the antibodies until December of 2022 when they finally started waning (actually, nosedived to nothing.)

Caught Omicron in late February and got over that.

According to NCL's "rules" if I were to board the ship within 90 days of "getting over" Omicron I wouldn't have to do a thing other than present the positive test that I had Omicron followed by the negative test saying I was over it.

Guess what? My board date is 94 days after testing negative for Omicron. So I have to test to board.

After not being able to get my money back for a cruise I'd booked for TWO YEARS AGO I really just want to get the cruise part over with and then onto Denali for a week and roughing it.

Here's the best part: Since I have to fly to Vancouver to get on the boat, I'm now also required to test negative before being allowed to get on the plane -- in Anchorage, Alaska to fly home -- directly to ORD. No stop over in Vancouver, it's a direct 8.5 hour flight back.

Why the eff do I have to test to get on a plane -- in the United States of America -- to fly to -- the United States of America? Oh, Because I traversed an airport in Vancouver to get on a boat headed to -- America.

Talk about screwed up. The Cruise I can live without. GF wants to do that. Denali is what I want to get to. It's a bucket list item for me.

Walgreen’s must run an enormous number of covid tests, nationwide. So their data should be a pretty good sample. Check out these numbers from Walgreen’s web site. This chart shows the positivity rate by vaccination status. It indicates that unvaccinated people currently have a lower rate of positive covid tests than vaccinated people:

This chart, from the same source, shows what percentage of tests were administered in each group and what percentage of tests were positive:

So unvaccinated people accounted for 28.5% of the tests, but only 16.6% of the positive covid results.
