From combating Democrats and the liberal media as an anti-Russia hoax House chair, former California Rep. Devin Nunes is now atop former President Donald Trump’s startup social media challenge to leftist Silicon Valley.
“What these companies have been getting away with is something we have never seen in the history of the globe because a lot of these tech tyrants are bigger than what global empires were in history,” Mr. Nunes told me in an interview.
The first item Mr. Nunes wanted to talk about is the same message he had in Washington: Don’t believe “fake news.” In this instance, don’t believe the spurt of negative news articles about the Feb. 21 debut of Truth Social, Mr. Trump’s flagship antidote to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram et al.
The Presidents Day event was not a “full launch,” he says, but a limited opening to early registrars. The rollout provided a chance to work out the bugs for a planned expansion to additional access points, not just the current iPhones and Apple Store. But even with those limits, Mr. Nunes boasts that users are seeing record engagements/interactions — that is “ReTruths.” (A “Truth” is a post; a “ReTruth” is sharing another’s post.)
“Bottom line is it’s the fastest-growing social media company in history,” he told me. “There hasn’t been one that has grown faster.”

“Nunes added that he expects Truth Social to be fully open to the public by the end of March.”
They’ve made it ‘fully open’. It doesn’t work.
You’d think that, sure, but another option is that someone else might start their own with different goals - and then everyone will go over there, and Trump may find himself on the outside looking in.
Look, I want this to work, but this has been a horribly botched launch.
You identified a serious flaw in the Trump operation.
And based on watching pretty much every episode of The Apprentice, I was very surprised and disappointed.

Also, one reason why many tech-savvy people are incredulous about how bad this launch is is because Truth Social is *not* built from scratch. They chose to build it on an existing free and open-source software package called Mastodon. The TS developers then promptly violated the terms of license by not releasing their modifications to the package publicly. They had to be harassed to do so for a couple months.
Even assuming that they were unwilling to outsource the servers for shutdown concerns, that’s already a solved issue. Just check with porn providers to see what they do - they buy their own server hardware and get ironclad contracts with datacenters to do co-location. There’s nothing here that couldn’t be solved with competence and money. They evidently have the money, which leaves competence missing.
there’s no way Trump moves on. It’s merging with TRUMP MEDIA. This is WAY bigger than a twit competitor is as well so getting the infrastructure right is key to it all. They must have server capacity for all their doing or it will fail; hence the need to get it right.
That’s a subreddit - the definition of a corporate-run establishment social media network.
It is not TruthSocial.
CNN...lol
Nunes came out several times in the last couple days calling them all fake news who are reporting things that weren’t said. They just finished adding all the earlier registers and are currently going through the waitlist. Some have had success updating their apple app and then getting in. They are using a web app for android which should be out in a few weeks.
I think the problem with that is a not uncommon one - he may not understand tech well enough to be able to judge who is competent or not for a position there.
That’s not a unique problem, though it does afflict older execs a bit more than younger.

Android app?

“Trust me - if you have a launch with tons of fanfare then can’t get reasonable numbers of people in to a working system, the people you can’t get in will leave and they are unlikely to be back.”
Yup. It’s a fiasco. I’m thinking sabotage. Regardless, there is no excuse at this point.
Your logic is sound but the situation is unique. Considering l see more Trump f flags and signs now then l did in 20 l’m betting people will be keep trying it until it works. It has been a bad start that is undeniable. Trump does seem to have a week spot with who he puts in charge of things. Wray, Sessions, Barr…
I have the utmost respect for Devon Nunes but I don’t think putting a Dairyman/Farmer in charge of your Tech company is a good idea! Darrel Issa would have been a better pick with the right experience.

I was 98kish on the wait list and got in about a month back. They have been slowly scaling and increasing capacity achieving over a million accounts easily in less than 2 months.
Trump while not posting already has over 800k followers- people who have already had their accounts activated.
Site is great. Next goal is continued increased capacity and web browser launch.
To give you an idea of how well this HAS gone - it took this long for each of these sites to reach 1 million:
Pinterest: 20 months
Instagram: 2.5 months
Spotify: 5 months
Dropbox: 7 months
Facebook: 10 months
Twitter: 24 months
Tumblr: 27 months
AirBnB: 30 months
Kickstarter: 30 months
They are doing the right thing and scaling it slowly without a full launch until they are fully ready.
I’m putting my money where my mouth is with a significant investment in DWAC. It’s at 3 months low right now and I wish I had more money on the side to add further.
