U.S. employers say it's a hard time to find and keep talent. Workers are decamping at near-record rates, while millions of open jobs go unfilled. One reason for this labor crunch that has largely flown beneath the radar: Immigration to the U.S. is plummeting, a shift with potentially enormous long-term implications for the job market.
In the middle of the last decade, the U.S. was adding about 1 million immigrants a year. But those numbers, which slowed down during the Trump administration, hit a brick wall when COVID-19 erupted in 2020.
In 2020, immigration fell to half of its 2016 level; last year, it fell to just over a quarter.

When wages keep up with inflation than I might believe in labor shortages
There is no labor shortage. There is a welfare surplus. Too many Americans make their living from the US government. Too many big corporations operate because corporate welfare and contracts from the US government. Too many Americans are employed by government at all levels.
This is all funded by tax dollars that do not exist. Thus, the Fed does "quantitative easing" - prints money out of thin air, makes the dollar worth shit and intentionally forces inflation upon the real working Americans.
Cut the money train. Let all these leftist government funded businesses whither on the vine. Fire 80% of government employees. Send their lazy asses to the unemployment line. You will have the labor market equalize. You will have greater freedom and liberty. When that happens we can talk about the very specific and rigorous requirements to legally enter and/or work in America. Until that happens every single wetback needs to be stopped with deadly force at the border. That will end this invasion very quickly. Then we need to make America, America again. Every illegal alien needs to be deported. We need Eisenhower's Operation Wetback on steroids. That is an effective short term use of tax dollars that will yield a longer term benefit. Quite simply we get to be Americans in America.
But open-borders Neocons prefer to keep wages at poverty level. The working class can then supplement their meager wages with foods stamps, public housing, free emergency room visits, Obamacare, and student loans.

Excellent points!
Irina must be on the sauce....everyone knows that when the Dems used Covid as a method to secure votes and started paying workers more to stay at home nobody wanted to work. What is hard to understand???????????????
What total BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the wages offered were reasonable, there would not be a shortage of workers.
Simple economics, when labor is short, it is more valuable. Importing workers keeps wages artificially low.
We actually have a shortage of middle class parents having kids. And if we don’t find a way to fix this, the US will collapse in a generation.
We need less immigration and more automation. Americans aren’t reproducing themselves per the last census and we have a surplus population that won’t work if you put a gun to their head.

The main purpose of the GOP since the Bush League took over in 1989 has been to prevent the citizens from stopping this invasion.
It has been the largest bipartisan project of the last 30 years.
As long as we keep re-electing Assistant Democrats they will keep assisting the Democrats to a permanent majority.
Exactly. Why do too many young people have little interest in work? Because they can get away with it.
I was reading that if you add up all the benefits from welfare, it would take a $50K/year job to match it. What is needed is to consolidate all "means-tested benefits" programs under one agency (which would allow us to lay off a whole bunch of bureaucrats), and then cap the aggregate of benefits people are allowed to have, to not exceed what a minimum wage job would give.
This headline alone contains enough gaslighting to set the city of Chicago ablaze.
Exactly.
Most companies want to give 2-3% raises per year when the inflation rate is 6-12%+ per year.
That is why so many people are quitting jobs, they are switching to get more money. They need to just to survive.
>>>>>>> BULL <<<<<<<
“So when the open borders get closed, the labor pool stops growing and following the laws of supply and demand, unemployment goes down and wages go up. The ruling elites don’t want that”
Interesting analysis. Where did the workers go that formerly had the now-unfilled jobs?
...and paying for illegal alien invaders and "affirmative discrimination" targets the middle class.
What a load of crap.
We’re bursting at the seams with immigrants. Mostly of the illegal variety.
I loathe the lying, destructive left.
BS.
Drop dead IRINA
