U.S. employers say it's a hard time to find and keep talent. Workers are decamping at near-record rates, while millions of open jobs go unfilled. One reason for this labor crunch that has largely flown beneath the radar: Immigration to the U.S. is plummeting, a shift with potentially enormous long-term implications for the job market.
In the middle of the last decade, the U.S. was adding about 1 million immigrants a year. But those numbers, which slowed down during the Trump administration, hit a brick wall when COVID-19 erupted in 2020.
In 2020, immigration fell to half of its 2016 level; last year, it fell to just over a quarter.

Givers and Takers.
I guess they’re not counting the 2 million illegals who showed up in Texas and AZ last year?
Hey IRINA IVANOVA, you need to take a trip to TX/NM/AZ/CA and check out the shortage of immigrants. Things are so dismal there the CBP just play cards all day long. Fookin’ idjit!
How do you know they can’t drive an 18-wheeler drunk if you don’t give them a chance?
That’s because “americans” aren’t interested in having to work for a living anymore. They’d prefer to stare at their cell device all day long. They see life as coming to an end once they get their college diploma (tuition receipt) and go off into Zombieland with their cell device.
Well, there you have it, we are being told that a drop in immigration is bad for the economy.
We are not to talk about reports of big numbers of native born Americans who are not in the labor force for one reason or another.
Some reports are that about 30 million immigrants, legal or illegal, have come to America since the year 2000. That is almost 10% of our entire population. That isn’t enough?
If immigration is so necessary to survival of a country, what of some countries, such as Japan, which generally do not allow immigration? How are they surviving, if we are saying that immigration is so vitally important?
So when the open borders get closed, the labor pool stops growing and following the laws of supply and demand, unemployment goes down and wages go up. The ruling elites don’t want that.
Ain’t that the truth. I have farmer friends who are getting applications from “Mohameds” this year. Sometimes I think we do need a reset. Not of the liberal kind though.
America does not need immigrants.
There are millions, perhaps tens of millions here already who have not assimilated, and are making little discernible efforts to assimilate.
As for the “immigrant shortage”, now that they are loved and adored by the gringos, they aren’t interested in working anymore either. They’re only here to whack the “Big Pinata” every day to watch the goodies fall out. AND THAT’S THE TRUTH. They’ve got the border patrol changing their kids’ crappy diapers and wiping their snotty noses. Don’t get no better than that.
They’d prefer to stare at their cell device all day long.
********
I’m surprised that more accidents aren’t caused because of people
driving and texting/talking/etc thus not paying attention as they drive.
More propaganda to flood the country with foreigners.
The Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA) has been the largest bipartisan project of the last 30 years.
Justification for opening up the flood gates.
What a stupid article. We don’t need any more immigrants. We need the lazy bastards that are here to work. There are far too many incentives not to work.
Bs
Wow that may be the most racist headline I’ve read in quite a while
What? You mean to tell us that all of these illegals flooding our southern border aren’t the best and brightest from third world countries, here to do the jobs Americans refuse to do?
