Portland grocery chain Fred Meyers (Kroger subsidiary) plays loud classical music in its parking lot to deter illegal activities, including gangs, drug deals, and other crime. And it is working. But some neighbors complain it is "irritating and inhumane".

Fred Meyer released a statement saying the deterrent is effective. Portland Police refuse to pursue the noise complaints. Details in video.

While I prefer other genres of music, hearing the classics never bothered me.

First they played “It’s a Small World” but that ran off the customers too.

Savages feel that expecting savages to act like humans is “irritating and inhumane”.

I used Barry Manilow to get kids to leave Pizza Hut at closing time back in the ‘80s. When you play nine in a row, it breaks them down.

Our local subway system does this at the “downtown” stops. I have noticed they particularly prefer string concertos

The combination of classical music, and strings played over a transit-authority public sound system keeps the Yutes and even the most incoherent drug-addicts away.

Good for Fred, I always liked him.

Aside: Fred Meyer is a LARGE very complete Department Store with a large Grocery department, and occasionally, a Gas Station.

This was successfully done in the 80’s also. Some cultures are superior than others.

May I suggest Beethoven's 9th Symphony, 4th Movement ("Ode an die Freude")?

Always used to help me "sharpen up" for a little of the old "ultraviolence."

(Well, not any more. I'm better now.)

Regards,

Amazing how evil people do NOT like hardly anything truly good. Their minds become poisoned and they can’t stand good things, quality.

I'm opposed to violence of any kind but if you were to go that far, I'd be forced to........

The upscale grocery chain Fresh Market has been playing classical music inside the store since their very first opening.

I have never seen riff raff inside a Fresh Market.

He ought to blare Grand Funk Railroad's Don't Let 'Em Take Your Gun from the 1976 album (bicentennial year songs)

I think that is listed in the Geneva Convention as a War Crime. It is right up there with Yoko Ono “singing.”

Possibilities: If we could stop stealing and crime in those areas, that would be a good start.
