“I leave my cell phone at home and nobody knows where I am.”

Sort of. Cops and street cameras now employ license plate readers.

I heard they’re going to add sound to EVs for safety reasons.

The standard version they’re testing sounds like a little pig, but if you want a big engine sound, you’ll have to pay an extra $1,000.

“Hell, this is the generation that takes a dump and posts a photo of it on Instagram. “

And spends all day checking for licks and looks, or whatever they stare at.

Sometimes it’s less expensive to engineer and build in the factory one mechanical version but have multiple versions of software enable features.

So it’s driven by economics.

So if a few million people opt not to subscribe to having these so called options in their cars, all that equipment, parts, labor, energy and resources to install all this in these vehicles, is all wasted?

My 12 year old Toyota is going to get even better maintenance from now on.

No Satellite radio, no internet connected anything.

My old droid phone has a removable battery too.

FTA: The owner of the vehicle had decided not to purchase Audi’s tri-zone climate control, yet still received a “Sync” button in their brand new battery-powered SUV. And yes, pressing it did do something—but not what they expected.

Writer of this piece needs to go back to first grade to learn that plural pronouns such as “they” and “their” are not used for a single individual.

You have a good plan with that Toyota.
The only problem could be if the govt goes to a very strict inspection regimen that makes it uneconomical to get an older car registered, like they do now in Britain and Japan.

“The window went down, but would not go up.”

I’ve had electric windows/sunroofs like that.

I remember a 1970s routine by comedian David Brenner on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, where Brenner talked of a car salesman marveling to a customer "This car has air!"

Now, the car has air, but you have to pay monthly to turn it on?

Restoring a 1969 VW Beetle now. Bought one in wonderful condition from the original owner. Stored in his garage for the past 21 years.

Old school and I love it... 4-speed stick. Plugs, points and condenser.

Four-cylinder, air-cooled engine...no radiator...no coolant.

Not a single microchip in it.

Fifty-three roaring horsepower. 1493 CC.

The windshield washer fluid sprays using air pressure coming from the spare tire.

The German engineering in this iconic car is simple but highly impressive in its function.

These were GREAT cold and snow vehicles with rear engine sitting over the drive wheels. No coolant to freeze.

I have a twenty year-old Audi TT hobby car that is a ball to drive but I once broke the lock on the drivers side and the car could not be driven. The lock is obviously part of the built-in security system so, broken lock=no start.

I've done iPhone battery swaps and screen repairs. Not easy. I also don't own one because they're a PITA. Not that my 5 year old Samsung S9 is any easier but it does seem tougher. Lost track of how many times I've dropped it or drove off while it was on the roof of the truck and hit the pavement. Still works. Go figure.

When this Keurig machine breaks it goes to electronics recycling and I'll order a new one. I've no interest in repairing it. :-)

That was a nice car. Brings me back to my old street racing days! My brother and 2 friends had one of those. I had a few other street cars myself. 67 Pontiac Beaumont, 69 Z28, 68 El Camino.

I have a 2005 semi-old Jaguar S-Type which has two buttons that look like a telephone, but if you push them a screen pops up to say something like, “Vehicle not equipped for phone”.

There is a phone module that I could probably buy used on ebay and plug it in. Would that be all there is to it to make it work? I doubt it.

I bought a little gizmo for under $20 that plugs into the cigarette lighter. It links to my cellphone and broadcasts to the FM radio on a frequency that I can choose, and it works pretty well.

I can still build engines and transmissions because the parts are fairly big. But those super tiny screws are really tough at my age (vision and unsteady hands LOL).

I have an alarm system built into my truck. I have to pay hundreds of dollars to unlock it.
