Restoring a 1969 VW Beetle now. Bought one in wonderful condition from the original owner. Stored in his garage for the past 21 years.

Old school and I love it... 4-speed stick. Plugs, points and condenser.

Four-cylinder, air-cooled engine...no radiator...no coolant.

Not a single microchip in it.

Fifty-three roaring horsepower. 1493 CC.

The windshield washer fluid sprays using air pressure coming from the spare tire.

The German engineering in this iconic car is simple but highly impressive in its function.

These were GREAT cold and snow vehicles with rear engine sitting over the drive wheels. No coolant to freeze.

My old AMX was a "garage find" that sat for years after the nice lady who I bought it from lost her husband.

I bought it in 1984. The car sat in the garage unmoved, uncared for for over a decade. Rear quarter panels and wheel wells were completely rusted out, belts and hoses where trashed, spark plugs were rusted into the block and mice ate a lot of the electrical wires. Brakes were all trashed from rust. Took three very full weekends of working on it to get it started and so I could stop it -- but it ran and I got it home when I was done. It was a labor of love restoring it.

Those were the good old days weren't they? Best of luck with the Bettle, post pics when you're done will ya?

These were GREAT cold and snow vehicles [VW] with rear engine sitting over the drive wheels. No coolant to freeze.

Back in 1972, I went camping with my 1960 VW Bug and it snowed and the temp dropped to -11 overnight. In the morning, I couldn't turn the engine over because the oil got too viscous. I had to put a small camp stove under the oil pan for about an hour before I could turn the engine over.

And no heat or defroster unless you have the optional gasoline-burning heater.

Always carry a spare throttle cable and vice grips.
WHEN THE CABLE GOES ON YOUR WAY TO AN IMPORTANT CLASS CLAMP THE BROKEN END. You may have to remove your shoe and use your toes...

If you don’t have “How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive: A Manual of Step by Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot “

You want a copy even for experienced gear heads.

Gave my 67 to our daughter a few years back.
And owned a few others including THE THING.
