Under Democrat control, it’s trying to take on powers that Congress never intended it to have, all in the name of “climate change.”
Congress created the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) in 1934 to prevent another stock market crash like the one in October 1929 that plunged America into the Great Depression. The SEC has a very simple mission: “Protect Investors; Maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets; Facilitate capital formation.” Last week, however, the SEC’s commissioners floated the idea of giving themselves a new power, one that Congress never contemplated: Forcing America’s publicly traded companies to change their business practices to fight climate change. While it’s questionable what woke companies will do, what they ought to do is push back on the ground that the SEC lacks the authority to make such a demand.
The SEC itself fully understands what its role is. It even has a web page headlined “The Role of the SEC.” It was on that page that I found the mission statement I quoted above.
On the same page, the SEC explains Congress’s goal in creating the SEC:
When the stock market crashed in October 1929, so did public confidence in the U.S. markets. Congress held hearings to identify the problems and search for solutions. Based on its findings, Congress – in the peak year of the Depression – passed the Securities Act of 1933. The following year, it passed the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, which created the SEC.
The main purposes of these laws can be reduced to two common-sense notions:
-Companies offering securities for sale to the public must tell the truth about their business, the securities they are selling, and the risks involved in -Those who sell and trade securities – brokers, dealers, and exchanges – must treat investors fairly and honestly.

The left weaponizes everything.
“Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State.” — Benito Mussolini
The left applies this to their own power every minute of every day.
I feel very pedantic but I think I've been noticing things like this more and more. What does this mean? Is it a kind of word salad? Did they string these words together because it might sound good? Hey, it's growing. Hey, let's think of something big. Let's think of a monster. Hey, it's growing like a big scary monster. Hey, it's growing like Godzilla.
Godzilla's size was fairly inconsistent (cheaply made movies don't worry too much about such continuity) but Godzilla is not known for any sort of "growth". He started huge.
I know. It is an important subject and when I saw that Andrea Widberg wrote it, I debated whether I wanted to post it.
Not only are they wielding unconstitutional power, but they are among the highest paid government workers, with average salaries of almost $200k for their professional staff, according to websites that track government salaries and employment. Even worse, they are Unionized, allowing the overpaid lawyers and accountants to get significant raises and benefits while the private sector employees pay for it all. Its more like the DMV than a wall street watchdog. If we had a real republican party, it would be a no brainer to cut this agency’s budget by at least 50%.
This is true, just take a look at the massive new regulations to confirm. DOL is also getting back involved.
That's my beef, too! He was born on third base and acted like he ran a triple stomping Tokyo. Never lived up to his full potential. Kinda the Ted Kennedy of monsters.
——He started huge-—
As I recall, Godzilla started as an egg
Yeah, but just look at the size of that thing!
Obama added 123,000 employees to the govt bureaucracy and Biden wants to add 50,000 more in 2022. They have a lot of friends on the govt dole.
